I was wondering that as well. If these cards will be ready to ship towards the end of this month, one would think that they would have a real picture of it...

Anyone who buys this is a freakin' moron. I can't belive anyone is EVEN THINKING about buying this thing, especially for ~$300. You won't be able to tell difference in your LAN game between your built in 100Mb or 1Gb NIC and someone who has this moronic thing in their PC. If you want to buy a bad ass nic, get this. But even if you had the network equipment to handle this card, you won't see a difference in gaming with this card compared to a built in 1Gb NIC. With the built in NIC cards that comes with current motherboards, the response time is so low, going any lower doesn't make a noticable difference in gaming.

So what I'm saying is, don't be a moron and give these people money. It is a total RIP.

While we're on the topic...is wireless G suitable for online gaming? My wireless router is in another room, and so I was considering throwing a PCI wireless G card in my system. I use Roadrunner cable internet (3 Mbps down advertised). How much am I giving up over ethernet for games like counter-strike?

You would have to be a complete freaking idiot to waste that kind of money. We're way beyond neon lights and RAID0 disk systems here. Way beyond. Anyone who buys that turd might gets ooh's and ahh's from their kiddie gamer friends, but would get instantly pegged as a complete tool by anyone who knows anything about networking.
Exactly.

LOLz0rs!1!!!

I laughed @ the Killer NIC when it was announced, since i figured they'd be charging like $30+ for it maybe.

ROFL @ $280 though.

Simply hilarious.

Wired is tried and true, so I'd always recommend that over wireless no matter what the wireless throughput. But that being said, wireless G isn't bad if being wired is not possible. I have a wireless G adapter on my XBox and the response is not bad. But I'd run a cable to it if I could.

Well the original poster DID buy a * BFG PhysX 128mb card, so he is pretty gullible for useless hardware.

An NIC costs a few bucks.

A good NIC costs a few more.

A really good one which offers multiple ports, load balancing server reliability etc. might cost a couple of hundred unless you insist on Cisco.

Pretty much all motherboards these days have at least one built in gigabit ethernet port, and the new nForce 590 chipset also features load balancing on multiple NICs out of the box, intelligent packet scheduling and that is on a motherboard that doesn't cost as much as this NIC.

So to summarise, this NIC can't possibly represent either value for money or even a reasonable performance benefit for the expense.
Also if you are using a traditional broadband connection to play games over this is always going to be the cause of more latency than your entire system.

Well technically he only said he PLANNED to assemble a computer with that card.

I think DAPUNISHER nailed it. Worst shill ever. Although he did get us to talk about it, he may have underestimated the readers of the site. When you spam every forum you can find remotely related to computers, you're bound to hit one that actually has a clue what you're talking about and doesn't just look at marketing. I hate to say I actually thought this was someone stupid enough to consider this a good product, rather than realizing what he was really doing.

Actually, I got my PhysX card months before it was released (had to sign an NDA) to aid in development.

I am in the Guild Hall program at SMU which is a premier game development program.

I am not gullible by any means, I just get a kick out of getting new hardware and toying with it. If money isn't an issue then why does it really matter?

If you think I'm ignorant, please come over to the steampowered.com forums and see what I know and don't know.

The only think I underestimated was how incredibly rude you guys can be. This is a hardware forum - we should be discussing facts and having mature discussion here. Putting people down for asking a question is completely unacceptable.

I posted here because I know there are a lot of smart people here. But then you guys have made it apparent that there are a lot of idiots here who have nothing of any value to contribute.

Spam every forum? What forums have I spammed? I posted in this forum and at steampowered.com. I didn't know that it was wrong to get a wider perspective on something...

you're bound to hit one that actually has a clue what you're talking about and doesn't just look at marketing.
Bit full of ourselves are we? Only a few people have actually displayed that they "have a clue" in this thread. I don't just look at marketing nor do do the members at steampowered.com. I know the marketing is full of ****** but that doesn't mean that card has no benefits. I'm building a brand new computer and I only want the best in it. This card is probably the best RJ45 gigabit card on the market, it just simply isn't worth that much money.

Oh FFS. The length of cable between your router and computer will make more difference than this card.

lol. Realisticaly, I'd probably pay $50 for it. If they add some Wireless N to it then I'd pay up to ~$75.

I don't get the point of putting memory on a NIC. Why not just buy like 3 Intel Gigabit Server NICs and load balance em?

And, if this is Viral Marketing... Thats really not cool.

Maybe if the card ignores all TCP/IP protocols it'll reduce lag. No collision detection ftw!

he added about as much as you did with your "uber 1337 killer nic"

you call us immature - we call it calling a spade a spade, it is a b.s. product
