Killer Coke

Somebody linked to this on Slashdot and I was windering if any of you have heard of this. Basically there's allegations that Coca Cola has been advocating more than just strong arm tactics to force their unions into submission. I never heard of this before and I've had trouble actually corroborating the story with other sources on the web. I'm thinking it might be BS, but there's nothing on Snopes about it either.

I always have to think that sites like that are made by some worker whose pension or 401K got taken away for some reason, or was fired.

But this site actually looks credible. It's well built and clearly states who they are and has a address and phone #'s. Wherther it is actual contact info is to be determined but it sure looks right. They've got links to a ton of other sites who aren't associated with them.

Interesting read.

While I am willing to accept that what is alleged may be taking place, in my look through the site (quick look) I saw no evidance that Coca-Cola as a corporation was to blame. Are some of the people that are liscened to bottle Coke in foreign land doing what is alleged quite possibly. But other than pulling the liscense (which would not stop the acts just Coke's connection to it) I don't see what they can do to stop it.

There is some corroboration. This is a lawsuit filed in Florida on one of the killings:

"Plaintiff SINALTRAINAL is a Colombian trade union that represents
workers in the food and beverage industry in various locations in Colombia, including at the
Coke bottling plant operated by Coca-Cola FEMSA in Barranquilla. SINALTRAINAL has had
numerous members and leaders assassinated and tortured by paramilitary forces. Based on the
allegations herein, this murder and torture has been perpetrated by paramilitary units that were
acting as agents for one or more of the Defendants."

it's a big Corporation, would they do this? maybe or maybe not, would they look the other way if it means more profit for them? you bet they will
