Killer CD Drive?

Well, I was reformatting my gf's computer, and i was letting it do its thing, and after the restart, the computer hanged after the xp loading screen. Couldn't get it to boot, and soon realized the cd drive would not open... I took a needle to it, and popped it open to find a completely shattered windows xp install disk. LOL

How is that even possible? I realize the cd's spin at high rpm's but still....

If the disk even has the tiniest crack there is a high risk of the drive shattering it. Sometimes perfectly fine disks still shatter.

I was always under the impression that you pay for the license. Contact Microsoft and see if they will provide you with a new CD. I think the License Key is what is important.
