Killer aluminum case!

Neat looking case!

Should have used a microATX or other form-factor PSU rather than doing a hack-job on a full-sized one. Inrush current limiting important. Some PSUs can draw 120A or more for a short period on startup - possible to trip circuit breakers/fuses and cause problems with other equipment in the house due to the rebound spike. Not to mention that modding the PSU like that removed any UL/CSA certification it might have had. And if it causes a fire, many insurances won't cover it.

Aww c'mon Zepper, let people have their dangerous fun!

BTW, I ended up doint the "easy" thing and purchasing that Fortron mATX PSU (the one with 24 pin and dual rails for $40) instead of ripping apart one to squeeze into the mATX case. Should arrive today. This is in reference to my other thread where I listed a few budget PSUs. You probably saved my life. 😛

Now that I've looked at the linked custom case, NICE!

I could think of a number of hardware choices that would have been better (easy for me to say - he probably had reasons for using those parts). The guy could have gotten a 1U PSU or one of those tiny ones that uses an external 12V brick. That would have saved some internal space. A Palermo Sempron undervolted on a Biostar T/Geforce6100 would be very powerful yet run cool (my 2600+ runs at 1.125v).

Man, this has me thinking...

Wow, impressive custom build

I agree that the hardware was not optimal for the case - but the author did an awesome job of making it work. (PSU hacking would make me very nervous)

It makes me wish I didn't have a little apartment with no room to do heavy modding or building. I really need a workshop area 🙁

Kudos, nice job. Like other posters that PSU mod scares the hell out of me, but hey, if it works for you that's awesome.
