Just yesterday my computer stopped working and I found it to be the power supply. It was an Antec True330 that I've have for a few years. After that died, I put in a 250W that I took from a dell dimension and that one just died today. The case seemed to be making a lot of noise before it died, more so that usual I think.

With the Antec PS I had plugged in:
motherboard, 3 HD's, 2 cd drives, floppy, and 4 fans

When I put in the Dell PS I only used:
motherboard, 2 HD's, and 4 fans

I wanted to get someone's opinion of this problem before I buy a new one and kill that one too. Any suggestions are apprecited.

Thanks

yeah, some of the older dells used proprietary power supplies, that may be what killed that PSU, and may have damaged other things as well..

It was an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard and an Athlon XP 3200+ processor. I sure hope they still work

the Antec may have died of old age, but the 250watt PSU was most definately not enough for the system setup you have.

Are you having any other problems with electrical devices in your house? Perhaps your power is unclean.

250W is severly underpowered, specially since it's not a good brand name. You should be glad if it didn't waste any of your hardware.

There aren't any other electrical problems that I am familiar with. I am going to order another PS tomorrow, any suggestions of what I should get or how many watts it shoud be. I would like to get one that is quiet but not overly expensive, perhaps in the $30-$40 range. Thanks for all of your help.
