Kill Bill - Love it or Hate it?

With all of the violent movie threads going on right now and this movie mentioned in them I figured I would start a thread on it.

I thought it was horrendous. I only rented it a few months ago because I continually hear raving reviews about it. I saw nothing redeeming about it whatsoever. There was nothing and I mean nothing I enjoyed about it. I felt the big fight scene towards the end was absurd.

Am I the only one who thought it sucked? For those that did like it what appealed to you?

It was a good DVD rental. It never looked that good to see in in the theater. I could have done without that whole anime scene. Just for the record I wouldn't touch Uma Thurman with a 20 ft. pole.

The big fight scene towards the end wasn't supposed to be realistic. Maybe you just went into it expecting something Oscar worthy instead of just entertainment?

vol 1 i liked a lot. vol 2 was good but not great. i thought the anime scene was terrific. i really liked the various scenes with sonny chiba in both movies.

I didn't in the least. I have heard numerous times about the movie and went in expecting nothing more than to be entertained and enjoy it. I hated it and so did my wife. Plus there is the fact I am not big on Anime, maybe that was a part of it.

only saw the first one. kind of sucked. I wasn't buying Uma. Her acting sucked. Her fighting sucked. Everything about her sucked.

i thought the first one was awesome. he overexaggerated the fights and blood on purpose. it's based on a comic book. the anime to represent the background of her life was spectacular. i could've done without most of the second one, though.

I thought it was good despite the fact that Uma thurman was in it. She doesn't do it for me at all. I enjoyed both movies but I didn't go into it expecting realism.

I thought they were great when I saw them in the theaters.
I loved them even more when I saw them a second time on DVD.
It is one of the few movies I really want to own on DVD.

It's hard to explain why though. All the complaints I've heard are valid. There isn't a great plot, there isn't the great dialogue like in Pulp Fiction. The fight scenes are unrealistic. The violence is way over the top. But for some reason, I feel like I could watch it once a month and thoroughly enjoy it every time.

It really is all about style and not as much about substance. But the style is amazing. When I watch it, I find myself just really enjoying the camera work, the music, the whole atmosphere. I don't know how else to describe it except that it is more like a piece of art than a movie. And like art, some people are really going to enjoy what they see and some aren't.

It was such a generic been there seen that feeling after seeing both movies, I really didn't like or hate it. It was just kind of a "Meh" movie for me. Entertainment was alright, but nothing I'd feel the need to see again or remember.
Now, Memento on the other hand, just saw it yesterday. Wow!!

I hear you. We all have our movies we like that a lot of others don't care for but we stick with them regardless of popular opinion. I am not knocking anybody for liking it just expressing I went in thinking it was a different kind of movie than it actually was.

First one rules...
second one sucked...

Stupid fvcking movie, after pulp quentin went downhill... Sad because i really like Reservoir dogs and Pulp Fiction.

Of course, considering the number of posts i have read on this forum regarding katanas, every little kiddie is going to love it if it has a katana in it.

It is like all those hidden foot stupid dragon idiocies with people flying all over the place, it is humorous but there are better comedies.

[edit] no2 was better, not as funny but not as boring either [/edit]

I've never been an anime fan. I think the reason that sequence was anime was to take some of the edge off it. As is, it was very disturbing, but if it had been done with real actors, I think it would have given the whole movie too much of a dark and serious tone when it was intended to be comic bookish.

I saw it in theaters with friends because the wife wasn't really interested. When I rented the DVD, I was half expecting her to yell at me and ask WTF kind of movie I rented. She isn't a big fan of "artsy" movies or Tarantino. I was very surprised that she actually really liked it.

In theaters, I liked Vol 2 even more than Vol 1 because it tied up all the loose ends and had more story and dialogue and less action. But after seeing both a second time, I can't decide which one I like better.

Quentin went downhill?
I think it is clear that he accomplished EXACTLY what he set out to do with this movie. So in that regard, he did an outstanding job on this movie.

That doesnt' mean you can't hate the movie. But saying he's gone downhill implies that he's somehow no good at what he does. Maybe he is still very good at what he does, it's just that you don't like what he is now doing.
