Kill Bill: anyone get this reference? (flute playing)

i thought it was great that tarantino had david carradine playing the flute. he was always playing the flute in the Kung Fu tv show, and in Circle of Iron (where uses a flute as a weapon), he had a line that went: "It's hard to kill a horse with a flute." great stuff. also great was how when he's telling Kiddo about the mythology of heros, he's acting out a little piece of hero mythology for the story.

ok, i admit it, i thought the eyeball squishing was the best part. 😉

I didn't get the reference, and I said "yuck" along with the rest of the theater at the eyeball part. Good, but not great, movie though. It really balanced out the absurd violence of the first one.

yeah this one was a little less silly. kinda like he used all the action in the first half to get you sucked in so you'll pay attention in the second half, i guess.

Yes.

Did you get Bill's license plate reference?
I did.

hint:
it was one of many references to the same "thing"

Guess I missed it. But that goes to support my wanting to see it again, as opposed to the first.

damn... no one is gettign this one?
I never notice these things, so I can't believe someone has not brought it up yet.
It is an Easter egg to an Easter egg, which is why I thought it was so cool, and why I don't want to spoil it for anyone. PM me and I will tell you if you can't stand it.

SPOILER

Quenton Ternitino's "directors trade mark" is referencing other "director's trade marks"

so...

all the tag says is "somethign" "something" 1169,

which means the tag must read THX1169

which is a reference to THX1138...

which is George Lucas's easter egg

In Star Wars, A New Hope

which is when Harrison Ford says to the Storm Troopers, "They are in cell Block 1138"

which is an easter egg to his first film THX1138 and all lucas films since then, have an easter egg in them saying THX1138

Yeah, it may seem weird, but if you notice how many intentional mistakes, and the multiple Star Wars references (I mean even Bill's friggin Hattori Hanzo has a Darth Maul on it.) there are in the movie, it makes sense.

Well, in the first Kill Bill, QT borrowed the long take style shot from Scorsese in Goodfellas (when they first go into the bar where Uma fights the Crazy 88). I noticed that one right away... It could be that he is doing that, but it's a stretch indeed.

so what was the deal with them bleeping out beatrix's name in the first one? just for the sheer stupidity of it?
