Kids say 'GTA3 made me do it.' This is more lame than lame.

Read this first.

Please, take responsibility for your own actions!

Really, how weak can this sh!t get? For example they use the following rational to point the finger:

"But the law is that if you make a product that is linked in a chain of events, and but for that link the final tragedy would not have occurred, you are liable. You don't have to have little angels turned into killers."

OK. Let's burn all the books then. They have been instrumental in inspiring and educating people people in the ways of Murder and every other evil act known to man. They have instructed terrorists, taught killers and inspired uprising.

/rant off

Oh and this is the best bit: "Mr Thompson has fought this battle before - and lost. "

Reminds me of a phrase I've seen many times (apologies for any missed bits of it):

"If video games influence people so much, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms eating blue pills."

Sometimes I wish that the law had exceptions for murder of people that infringe upon my rights to have senseless fun.

Something similar happened in my city. Text I went to school with the oldest of the bunch. When it all first happened the prosecuters tried making it seem like GTA Vice City was to blaim.

Am I the only one that thinks of Sept. 11, 2001 here? Sue the airplane manufactorers? That's a product, and is responsible for billions of dollars in damage, and more billions in stock market collapse. Anyone?

You would be surprised how many parents let their children watch/play inappropriate films / games. I have taught 8yr olds who have played gran turismo, and one 8 year old girl was singin the nightmare on elm street song! '1,2 freddies coming for you, 3,4 freddies at your door' - she was quite shocked when I gave hear an earful.

Truly in any crime any hundreds or thousands of manufacturers and people could be held liable. Maybe you ran into a store - well sue Nike. Maybe you had that energy because you'd just had a gatorade. Sue them. Maybe the breaking point on your wanting to rob that store that day was because you were still upset over getting cold fries at mcdonalds earlier in the day. Maybe you'd read an article saying that 4/5 store robberies result in no conviction. Who knows?

It was Nolan Bushnell(spello?) and it was "If video games influence people so much, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, listening to repetitive music and eating little blue pills" AFAIK.

Yeah, that sounds right. I got almost all of it apart from the "listening to repetitive music" bit :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does not GTA3 feature an M rating. IE Mature rating for players 17 and up? So my question is, where are the parents in this? Is anyone watching their kids anymore?

Mr Thompson said if manufacturers wanted to keep selling violent games to children, they should be prepared for the consequences
Uh, what? hello? Isn't GTA rated "M" therefore a 14 year old couldn't legally get his hands on it? It's either the store's fault or the parent's for purchasing it for their kid.

While I was working at Best Buy, more parents than I could count came by my section with their kid clutching a PC or PS2 copy of GTA3 or Vice City. If they talked to me about something, every single time I ended with, "Y'know, that game's way too mature for him yet." To which the parent(s) always said, "Don't worry he's just holding/playing with it till we leave."

Yeah right. Parents are pushovers to their kids and then act all uppity about the little snotnosed freaks getting 'ideas' in his head. Blame yourselves!

Go ahead and kill them or give them a lobotomy because "The Devil may care" ;)

I owned one at this age and used it to hunt rabbits and squirrels when I was not playing video games. I also had a hunting license and did not play my rock music backwards so I could hear the devil telling me to kill everybody.

There is no accountability in this day and age. It is always someone elses fault
