It's common knowledge that mountain lions use snuff.

yeah, that would have been ideal.

Actually, I know exactly what he means. I've had the same experience.. Saw a dog that had been hit on the side of the road, and that's the only real way to describe it.

Maybe I'm a softie, but I would have helped them get the lion to the veterinarian clinic where the cat likely would have been saved rather than put down by the wildlife department (that's my assumption of what happened anyway). Then, I would have confiscated their weed, and dumped it on the side of the road and stomped it into the dirt really good right in front of them as a hard lesson. I would have then escorted them home in my patrol vehicle to ensure that they weren't DUI and to add to that bit of embarrassment that comes with being taken home by the cops. It's a win, win, win situation. All of that's speaking as a law enforcement officer too.

Spending a lil bit too much time with the computer dontcha think?

That would have been appropriate.
Nice to know theres some cops that can overlook a small wrong if it comes with a small right. :)

Those kids should go to court. Any judge worth his or her salt would toss that out.

If there were driving around drunk would you all still think the cop should let them off?

"A mountain lion that large can kill a deer -- that's how they make a living," Malmsbury told the Camera.
Sixty five pounds... that's around the size of a fat cocker spaniel I think, I don't think it would be kililng too many deer

Even possession of wildlife is against the law, but the men were not ticketed for that infraction, a sheriff's department spokesman said, because they were acting in good faith.
Wow, what a stellar sherrif dept., they can be proud.

Too bad the rescuers didn't make it to the vet clinic.. besides getting ticketed they also have the mtn lion's "euthenasia" on their conscience.

Thats kinda how I feel. Normally it seems we'd hear about how an injured mountain lion was tortured to death. In this case, thos ekids acted with the best of intentions and the asshole cop tickets them rather then giving them a break "this time" because they were acting with the best of intentions.

The officer is enforcing the law. How does that make him an "asshole"? If they were prosecuted for illegal possesion of the *animal*, then yeah...but what they were ticketed for was drug possession.

Whether it's 'wrong' or not is another story -- but he was doing his job. You would think that people possessing drugs wouldn't be stupid enough to talk to a sheriff's deputy..but apparently some are.

Also -- a 65mb mountain lion may not be 'large' for its species - but compare it to a bobcat and it's a little on the big side, no?

he was a prick and no 65 lbs is very small..
hell my rotty weighs 120 lbs
