this is from a local band's message board where we talk about whatever 'n' stuff, my friend from there posted this...

-----

Last tuesday I thought Id take a trip down memory lane and visit my old elementary school. This school is sooo old, my own father went there, and sure enough, nothing had changed since I left. It was weird, but fun.
Ahem...on the to the point of my post.

While there, I was passing a bunch of student work, from 3rd thru 5th grade, and one of the projects was called 'Messages for my Parents' where kids write one sentance messages to their moms and dads.

Not one of them were positive. Almost 90% of them were either either 'Please dont get a divorce' 'Please spend more time with me' 'Please dont fight' oh, and this was my favorite 'Daddy, please dont do drugs'

To top this off, I actually ran into one of my old 1st grade teacher (SHE REMEMBERED ME, I couldnt believe it) and I was shootin the shi-|- with her. She said every year, her class gets worse...nowadays, almost every kid keeps to himself, and she fears one member of her class is in for a long hard future cause he threatens to kill other classmates and hes ONLY 7!!!!! She also said that many of the parents have drug and alchahol addictions and that her job now consists more about raising the kids rather than teaching cause parents today dont spend any time with their children.

Very sad....

Hmmmm, I wonder why there are so many school shootings and crap, if one more senator tries to blame friggin movies or videogames, Im gonna crap. I hate bad parents, they should be locked in a small room, sprayed with malignant herpes and beat with their own severed limbs.

I think that is accurate more often than not. My wife is a teacher and there are situations where she felt that she was raising kids more than teaching them....

Im gonna crap

This I have no comment on...

I truly hope, for the sake of our country, that this can be straightened out.

Your post hits home, as just two weeks ago a close friend of mine who is a schoolteacher reported a parent for neglect based on her observations of the child in her class. At a court hearing the judge gave temporary custody to foster parents, and afterwards in the hallway the mother freaked out on my friend for "destroying my family" and had to be restrained by the cops. Meanwhile, all my friend wants to do is teach school - not be a taxpayer-funded spy. But the situation absolutely required her intervention. The mother is single and a drug addict, does not feed or clean her kids, yet blames the teacher for destroying the family!

I'm all for keeping families intact, and letting parents have much leeway in raising their children. But just being the parent does not equal being right.

The woman I've been dating is an EBD teacher at an elementary school. It's scary, some of the stories I've been hearing from her. The number of children living in completely inappropriate environments is alarming. :frown:
