Kid's notebooks

Currently we have the sunroom tied up with desks & desktop PC's for the kids, we have a relatively small house & if we went to notebooks for the kids with a charging area it'll free up the room for exercise equipment.

Just floated the idea of getting notebooks for the kids to the wife, & she's really on board with the idea.

Looking for suggestions, here are some criteria:

Prob going to upgrade every 18-24 months
No Apples, all software is PC specific, not going to change, ever.
They'll both need extended warranties.
802.11g mini pci Wi Fi cards, not pcmcia Wi Fi cards
battery life ~1 hour minimum

Gaming not a priority, primarily portable internet boxes &amp; 2D educational games, but not a complete slug either...
