Classical is ALWAYS a good idea. Debussy's Arabesque or Claire de Lune... Beethoven, Bach, so on... The gentle sounds on classical warming your room is always a good idea.

Try Disney's animated film scores.. they're good too. But 1 year old is too young, go with classical.

I've read that classical music is better for brain development in chidren. Not a bad idea.

I have also thought abotu hte soundtrack thing. Probably would work.

The Wee Sing series is good. They have LOTS of songs on them (unlike some other kids tapes that have the same twenty minutes on both sides!)

Edit: Also, while your experience may vary, the toddlers I know have more enthusiasm for songs that are sung rather than simply instrumental music.

Once mobile, what I call "jumping" music becomes more popular. "Jingle Hop" was a hit, for example.

Japanese lol.

So the kids will never understand what they are saying until they learn the language.
Could be quite useful.
