So this 9 year old goes missing, and his friend tells police:

"Newton's playmate told police that the 9-year-old was abducted midmorning Wednesday as the two were playing outside. A masked man pulled up in a black car and opened fire on them, the boy said, adding Newton might have been wounded before the man took him."

Turns out his friend died in an accident. I wonder if the story came out like this:

Police: Did someone take him?
Lying Kid: um, yeah, some guy
Boys in blue: Could you see his face or was he wearing a mask?
Pinnochio: Wearin a mask, couldn't see his face. I think he was in an asian gang or something.
Popo: Was the guy in a car or something?
Spitzer: Yeah, black car, blacked out windows.
Heat: Did he have a weapon?
Boy who cried wolf: Yeah, a .9, maybe an AK, he shot at us. I got away, buddy got tagged though.

P: We found the body, turns out it was an accident.
K: Sorry, teh videogamez made me lie.

Jack Thompson: SEE!!!

Boy reported kidnapped in Bakersfield died in accident near home

BAKERSFIELD - While authorities in two states searched for a young boy they thought had been abducted, 9-year-old Zane Newton was buried under an accidental collapse of dirt near his home.
His body was found "completely covered" in dirt in a lot hours after the reported kidnapping, police said.

Newton's playmate told police that the 9-year-old was abducted midmorning Wednesday as the two were playing outside. A masked man pulled up in a black car and opened fire on them, the boy said, adding Newton might have been wounded before the man took him.

In reality, police said, the boys were playing in a lot when Newton fell into a hole and was buried when it collapsed around him.

"It appears it was a tragic accident," police Sgt. Greg Terry told a news conference. He said investigators were questioning the boy who lied about what happened.

The reported abduction triggered a two-state Amber Alert, and officers searched Newton's neighborhood and knocked on doors.

A detective and two patrol officers, who learned that Newton was seen playing in the lot just a block or so from his house, went to the site and found the boy, Terry said.

Dozens of neighbors crowded around police tape as the body was dug out.

"It's devastating," said Mary Lou Rodriguez. "We've been in prayer all morning and when we finished praying they found him out here."

I'll ask the obvious: why didn't he run for help when his friend fell in?

Thought they'd blame him? He's 10, he probably watches Prison Break and thinks he'll have to hold on to some dude's pocket so he doesn't get ass reamed.

Kid might have pushed him in.

At that age I would have tried my hardest to get him out and then ran to get help. I could see him being really scared and feeling guilty if something else had happened that could make him worry. Not that he tried to kill him but may have been just messing around or even just got in an argument or something.

What a way to go. Thats sad. Just playing and then suffocating in a hole.

Clearly it was the praying and not policework that found the body.

It sounds like they were praying for the wrong thing: "Dear God, please help the search team find the boy". They should've prayed for the boy to be found alive and healthy.
