so this guy at my work today, he said his son's HS called him and told him his son hasn't shown up to school for 2 days.

For some reason, at that moment, I can imagine being infuriated cause he and I both come in every day and work like slaves, and his kid is ditching school and taking it easy.

yea my old HS days... now after waht u said i am realizing that it is selfish.. thank god that i made right decision and not skip around like my friends used to (going to restaurants or home).. i prob just skip a class or 2 at max but not a whole day (prob less than 5x max a yr).. never. i knew that would be bad for me as well as cheating my parents.

but this statement made me reflect torwards my parents, how hard they work for me, and what it would feel like if they found out i was doing something wrong🙁

i hope the kid is not a pothead or something serious

Maybe he had knowledge of some kind of physical violence which was to befall him, so he's avoiding the place.

you are freaking out over 2 fricken days?

sheesh.

I missed more then that! as long as i still got good grades my parents didn't care. heck me and my father would skip school to go fishing sometimes. But if my grades ever dropped below a B average such things stopped. Not to mention the TV was out of my room the snes etc.

AMEN!!!!! you know i never met so many up tight anal individuals before. I am pretty sure that every HS has a senior skip day where all the seniors go and have a day to just be them selves before the school year is over.

I think based on what i have read so far it sounds to me like yall are just pissed off that you were too chicken sh*t to skip a few days when you where in HS and know you will be da*med if so little bastared you have never even met does!!!

I also say kodos to the kid for actually standing up and being himself and not a programmed kid. He may not be doing what most people what him to do exactly but you know what he is stepping outside the bo and making his own decisions and becoming a man. He will have to deal with the aftermath from his parents and school but if you think for 1 sec he did not think of this before he choose to skip you are crazy.

Let him be he is NOT UNGRATEFUL HES A KID AND YOU UP TIGHT ASSES NEED TO LET HIM BE !!!!!!

😀

reading your post just made me think you skipped one too many days of school. either that or you really did have one beer too many...

Actually he's probably a pimply faced high school kid that's mad at the world.

 no i am not a " pimply faced high school kid that's mad at the world " I am 25 and lived my life to the fullest. I will say that not every decision i have ever made was the best but i can say that EACH decision i made MADE me that much stronger and that much better of a person. I do have a question for all of you who want to rag on this kid for skipping class what about all of the adults who call in sick to work because they are hung over (that is real responsible) or to call in sick to catch a day time baseball game? or what about the days you call in sick to just relax?? Are you going to actually try and convince everyone here that you are any different??? 😀

skipping school, ok. not telling your parents about it, not ok.
yeah, i take days off from work, but i always inform my company. if i'm taking a day off for my own enjoyment, i just say i'm not coming in to work today, i dont pretend i'm sick or anything.

You skipped school and told your parents? 😕

hehehehehe i never told my parents but my parents were smart enough to know that i was a kid and that was part of being a kid. My parents always knew everything i did not because i was obvious about it but because they have done the same stuff when they were young and that as long as I did my school work and went to work and did good at both there was no problems.

You mean ditching school to avoid a bully?

this is probably the most mild example of "kids being ungrateful brats" I have ever seen

Kids today are doing much worse things, from junior high to college. Now, if he's skipping school to do drugs and get aids, then that's a different story

WOW everyone as long as you dont cut class you cant get AIDS!!!! please if someone is going to get AIDS I am pretty sure it has NOTHING TO DO WITH CUTTING CLASS but I could be wrong.

As far as doing drugs MOST everyone has done a drug @ one point or another in their life. In my opinion it would be better to find out what the side effects are before you get older and it affects your entire life!! EVERYONE I know that experimented with drugs in HS and JH went through that phase of their life and no longer do it. Yet the ones who never did it as a child do it later in life and allow it to destroy their marriage/job/life. So IF the kid is having sex and doing drugs who are you to judge?? I am sure NONE OF US EVER HAD SEX or DID ANY KIND OF DRUGS IN HS. live your life and allow this kid to live his/hers!!

What kind of personal stuff can a high schooler have that would make him skip school?

Let me think back to my high school days.. hm... the beach... the movies... just plain tired... just plain not tired... felt like doing something else... felt like not going to class.. maybe a big test to put off... could be just about anything.

I'd like to see a HS kid use one of those excuses in a job for not showing up and see how long he has said job.

I'm learning about child and adolescent development in college right now. Really a good class, helps you understand why kids and teens and children act like they do. This is a good class to take along with psychology.

depends if its a real job...a lot of jobs you can no-show with no excuse all the time...

an old friend of mine no showed to mcdonalds 22 times in 6 months before they fired him. only reason they fired him is because it came under private management. lol. KFC is much the same way

Like I said in an earlier post. Adults do the same!!! and iI quote "I do have a question for all of you who want to rag on this kid for skipping class what about all of the adults who call in sick to work because they are hung over (that is real responsible) or to call in sick to catch a day time baseball game? or what about the days you call in sick to just relax?? Oh never saw this before the bump 🙂 Yes, maybe he was going to get beat up so he skipped. Not a very good long-term solution though 😛
