I started feeling pain on Friday at 5am
Went to my Doc 3pm Friday
4pm catscan to verify what it was
pain meds all weekend and I still have pain
This really svcks

went to specialist on monday. better pain meds

going into hospital friday to have it removed.

wish me luck.

When the doctor went in for the stone. He found that was impacted in my
kidney and I have a very bad kidney infection. He placed a stent in my
uretor. He wants my kidney to get healthy before trying to get the stone
again.

The saga continues.

Thank you for all your support and advise in this situation.

I am feeling much better now. I have been on antibiotics for over a week
and am back @ work. The stint relieves the press in my kidney so the pain in
almost gone. Since the stone is impacted the doctor wants to wait another
2 weeks before trying to remove it. Let my body totaly recover from the infection.

Thanks again for all your support and advise.

I will let you know more
when I know more

L8r,
Jetsfanatic :)

I do not know if this saga will ever end.

It all started on March 19th. I woke up with that wonderful back pain.
The
kind I get when I have a kidney stone. That day I went to my Doctor
and then had a catscan to confirm my ailment. March 22nd I went to the
urologist and he gave me the strainer and some pain meds. By March
24th the pain meds were not working. I was admitted to the hospital on
March 26th to have the stone removed. The doctor performed cystoscopy
on me. That is when they enter where the urine exits and try to remove
the kidney stone.
Well, when he got to my kidney he found a horrible infection and a 6mm
kidney stone impacted. He placed a stent between my kidney and bladder.
But was unable to remove the stone. I was sent home the next day and
placed on antibiotics for 10 days. I went to the urologist again on
March 31st.
He said I could return to work on April 1st. And he would schedule
lithotripsy for me in the near future. Well, then next date available
was May 1st. I had a couple of tests done before that date. On May
1st, I went to University Hospital in Newark for the lithotripsy
procedure. That is where they use shock waves to try and break up the
kidney stone. After the procedure, the doctor is only 60/40% sure he
broke up the stone. I have to pee in a strainer and see if pieces come
out. He wants me to have an X-Ray next week. Then he will be able to
tell me more. I still have the stent
between my kidney and bladder. I am not aloud to do much for the next
couple of days. Just rest and heal. The procedure really beat the
hell out of my back. I hope I do pass some kidney stone fragments. I
guess my feeling that this would not work, might have come true. But,
there is still hope. I hope. So, I'll be home taking my pain killers
for the next week.

Thank you all for your concern and encouragement during these painful
times.

L8r,

Jetsfanatic :)

Good luck. One of my teachers had a string of bad luck and passing a kidney stone or two was just a step along the way. He passed a kidney stone, he lived in that apartment complex here that burned down a few weeks ago... Not a good couple of weeks. Good luck with yours :)

Now add a ureter stent placement, lithotripsy, stent removal, & a freaking foley catheter to the mix & I'll feel sorry for you...

I thought I was going to freaking die:(

I'm curious, is there anything that we can do to prevent Kidney stones, or are they just inevitable?

Yeah, rumour has it that stones are a worse pain than child birth. Oops you should stop drinking those super-calcium shakes you love so much ;)

You know you love the foley. Tubes up your penis are wonderful. :p

JetsFanatic, good luck. Do you know if you're having Percutaneous stone removal, Ureteroscopic stone removal, or Open surgery? Either way, it must be a big one, and that sucks.

Good luck with that surgery. Any complications dealing with the urinatry tract are never fun.

Drinking water can help prevent them. I occassionally get a sore feeling in my kidneys if I haven't been drinking enough water, and I just drink a ton of water for a couple of days and it goes away.

JetsFanatic, I feel for you. I've had to have them removed before. The surgery wasn't too bad since I was knocked out (the doctor actually asked if I'd prefer local anesthesia!), but waking up with string sticking out of my penis and knowing it was attached to a tube in my kidney for the next two weeks was a bit unsettling. Watching the doctor remove it (and having him tell me that I should remove it myself over spring break) was even worse.

Hope it goes well for you.
