He's probably just a bright kid who likes computers, I've been programing in C since I was 11 or so, I got my CNA when I was 15 and Microsoft flew me up to Seatle in 8th grade because I won some web design contest
what wrong with a 14 year old getting certified?

Hmmm, as far as I've seen it in the past, either you pass the exam or you fail it to become a CCNA.... Are you posting at AT while you're taking the exam or something?

Great... more power to you.

Its just I'm going to make sure my son doesn't follow this path :)

I'm not really qualified to give parenting advice, but nobody forced me to do that, I did it because I loved computers. If your son wants to do it do you plan on stopping him?

Damn good, I'm just starting to work my way up higher on the food chain, by next year (16 right now) I'd like to have these certs: CCNA, MCSE, A+, and Network+. If not, I'll have plenty of time to study some more during school, considering I have no more computer courses to take in my school really.

Yep
It's your son, so I'm just asking out of curriocity, why?

Because I know too many child prodigies, brilliant grad students, and talented engineers and programmers that grew up regretting the little things they didn't do as teenagers

good point, that kid might be taking it to the extreme, but I do feel as if I'm living my teen years the best that I can(although I'm chasing other things besides certifications) :D

Is that why you feel the need to "get ahead"? The above is the alternative for you?

i don't want to push my kids too hard, but if they have an interest in something and want to get ahead of the pack, i will help them do it

ok stuff like this is kinda dumb...

what the hell do you need MCP for at age 13??

i realize i am only 17, but i am going to be working soon and a certification could help me out some...but MCP? what the hell are you gonna do with MCP? sit at home and look at your card while wondering if you are ever gonna have a girlfriend?

sorry for the low blows, but maybe its time someone woke you up to reality.

and...

getting 100 certs. before puberty is NOT a good idea, IMO.

i spent the last year working on my CCNA and i am 17. its too late to turn back, so i might as well finish, but sometimes i wish i had not done it.

i have 4 older sisters and i see that life stops being fun after you get out of college and you have to work. now, i realize you have fun, but not like when you are a teenager.

these years are something i wish i would not have thrown away, and im sorry i have to use you as an example, but it is too perfect. at age 13 you should be doing other things.

like getting outside once in a while

i started working summers when i was 14 , it wasn't in computer stuff (there wasn't much computer stuff going in 1980

) , but it would have been a lot funner than the work i did
