I also have to question if the school was so quick to act because of the guys clout and being a local celebrity. The school may well have not done their due diligence in getting the other side of the story.

At the same time, it should be remembered that the school can't give their side of the story as of yet due to privacy rules apparently. And there is always two sides too every story, especially when it involves two parents and their kids involving a school incident.

Shouldn't you be off practicing your didgeridoo instead of trolling us poor American's? :p

But yes, this is indeed an "lol America" moment as the story stands for now. Has the concept of political correctness reached down under yet? If you see Bob the aborigine, and remark that he resembles Billy Boy the aborigine, is there a decent chance you would be labeled racist?

Man, the didgeridoo is fucking impossible to play. I'm my entire life I've only seen one white guy that could do it.

To answer your question, yeah P.C. is getting out of control, but racism isnt really a problem.

But that said, fish have no word for water. :sneaky:

lol! I saw a white guy on TV a month or two ago, from the UK I believe, who is an expert didgeridoo teacher. Anyway, the subject was that perhaps the didgeridoo is a unique cure for sleap apnea and really bad snoring. The theory is that the circular breathing technique (which is very hard to learn) somehow retrains the muscles and/or strengthens them. He was teaching a guy in Sweden and he said his snoring/apnea problems was pretty much gone after a few months.

Here is a photo of this supposed racist, pictured with an apparent long time family friend who the Grayson family hosted for 6 months while he looked for employment. If there really is nothing racist about the kids comments, bullshit calls of racism only further divide and could potentially lead to a "cry wolf" problem. Despite our progress, I don't quite think we have reached that point where we have to make up racist shit. But, I could be wrong.

Wow, four adults were involved in this and none of them had the sanity to say its not a big deal? He should be honored to be compared to Obama, Obama's a great speaker and a very charismatic person. The guy resembles Obama, especially to a child: his hair line, the suit, the clean cut politician like demeanor, the slight gray in his hair, the large smile, and subtle "black" features. The craziest part is that he was expelled???

It's a chain reaction of stupidity that only another minority can stop. If a white adult says its not a big deal, he will just be called a racist himself and lose his job. So from their personal point of view, they had the sanity to not say it was not a big deal.

I can agree with what you are saying in general, but it isn't a "deal" at all as the story is presented. It isn't a deal at all if the kid truly thought he resembled Obama right? What is racist about that? It is just crazy.

If the person the kid compared Obama too had been white, would that have then not been racist and he would not have been expelled? Seems like the anchors daughter and Grayson didn't get along, and she could be using this as an excuse to get at him.

I am just looking at it from point of view of principal and super. If they say it's no big deal, they could end up being called insensitive racists themselves. With this guy being a TV newsman, I am guessing they were scared sh!tless. Of course they ended up in the news anyways, which is kind of hilarious.

The thing I don't like about this story - which may or may not be an outrageously poor judgement by the school depending how much of the story we got - is that the only reason most will give it more attention is that it has an underlying message of 'see, charges of racism are all nonsense!', which is a lie, and harmful.

Analogously, it's like people who are hateful of women and prefer 'the old days' of little enforcement of rape laws might love to talk about a woman who lies about rape.

What is also a lie and is harmful is that an 11 year old can be kicked out of school for making a harmless and casual comment because someone says it "feels" like racism. The underlying message is comply or be cast out and this child was a victim of race games.

Here ya go. "See, charges of racism are all nonsense". Now who just suffered the greater harm, someone reading this or that child?

It's about time Americans grew up, those who are racist, and those who look for them under their beds at night waiting to punish imagined injustices.

Obama's a great speaker and a very charismatic person.

Correction, Obama is a great reader. He actually sucks as a speaker. He tends to think faster than he speaks, and flubbs up a lot. Not as bad as the guy the dems want to be president if something happens to Obama...he does not actually engage his brain at all.

But yeah, I fail to see why any black man would be upset to be compared to Obama...unless they were talking about his ears. That I could understand.

Since he is 11 years old I am guessing he never really paid a lot of close attention to what Obama actually looked like. It's not like kids don't mistake people for someone else all the time or anything.

Parents take note: Your child must be able to identify any possible black celebrity or they are a racist

This is why teachers should be paid minimum wage.

Why the automatic teacher hate? Because the teacher escalated a claim of 'racism' to their boss? Shit, I wouldn't want any decision regarding that resting on my shoulders alone. Thats playing with your career and you better be damn sure I would get everybody possible involved in order to protect myself

This is ridiculous, but don't ignore the fact we still live in a world where looking like Obama gets you barred from talking to students at certain schools.

Or maybe that was just because he's Socialist. Or Muslim. Or a foreigner.

Damn, going to be tough to do when all black people look alike :p

(And white people smell like bologna -- just to balance things out)

Sadly, this is the case...

Right, but you're just pointing out the other side of Craig's coin. His point was valid in this case. It's bad enough that a kid is unjustly expelled. People shouldn't be generalizing from this sort of extreme incident. It's like people who drew sweeping conclusions about the criminal justice system based on the OJ case.

anyone read the article?

the kid that claimed he said it. also sent the kid text messages after mocking him. seems like a set up..

damn.

It’s not what he said, it’s how he said it,” Winger related, adding that student confidentiality precluded him from sharing many of the details.

oh so now its nto what he said but his tone. gotcha. wait what?

now its exploding in the schools face. if they would have taken a few minutes and gained facts..

No matter what the Newhall District contends, this problem hasn’t gone away and it looks to be getting more serious. The girl who overheard Grayson’s comments has been texting him on his cellphone, telling him that they had a party to celebrate his removal from the school.

“He told her to stop texting him and she responded F-U and called him a stalker,” Thomas said. He’s taking hard copies of the texts to the sheriff’s department, which could take this incident from a schoolyard remark into a hate crime.

Thomas contends that the school district used discretion in previous cases, but in this case, it seems like everything was a rushed judgment.

So the girl who "over heard" the comments is texting him and happy he was kicked out of school and harrasing him. the situation stinks..i think the school went to fast and to far.
