WTF is a great white doing in NJ? I thought it was going to be something like a bull shark (which is really common around there). Looks like he'll be OK though.

Great White my a$$.

It's probably the typical sand shark that's in NJ. An expert probably looked at the guy, and judging from the wound he gave a few possibilities of what type of shark would do that. The media saw "Great White Shark" on the list and couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a sensational story about someone in NJ getting attacked by a great white shark.

Here's how it goes:

Expert: "There's a 75% chance that this was a sand shark, a 24% chance that this was a bull shark, or a 1% chance that it's a baby great white shark".

Media: "OMG! Great White! Jaws!"

No shit...

Based on the tooth marks, season and region, Burgess said the incident was an attack either by a young great white shark or a sandbar shark.

On a side note, the movie Jaws was based on a spree of shark attacks from a bull shark in fresh water early in the 20th century in the NJ area. Bull sharks have the ability to survive in either salt or fresh water and are very aggressive, making them very dangerous.

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down to the pond and chasing bluegills and tommycocks. This shark, swallow you whole. No shakin', no tenderizin', down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.
