Kickstarter campaign to provide better audio output on the iphone/ipad

Well, there are already a lot of headphone amps out there that people use with their high end headphones, this is just something similar but marketed only to apple devices.

What does CD audio quality have to do with the headphone jack? It has already been run through a DAC at that point.

So they're proposing an offboard higher quality DAC? It's a phone. It's for portable audio. Why are people trying to get the absolute highest quality audio out of a portable device?

so.... waste of money right? I wont really notice it on, what i primarily was thinking for, my car speakers?

This seems like one of those things Apple will block with an update and then not care it screws everyone because they plan to sell a Beats version for three times as much.

I'd actually be interested in something like this for Android. If it bypassed the internal DAC of the device and allowed me a full access to an equalizer from all sound sources *AND* amped the output? Sure. The headphone out on my 5x is weak and the internal EQ only works on a couple apps. I spend about 50% of my day listening to music through headphones via my Phone.

It's pointless there because the EQ on the head unit of your car is going to ultimately rape anything your feed it.

iPhone 7 is reportedly removing the headphone jack so this (or a lightning connector headphone) will become mandatory. This is not really the typical audiophile snake oil. This is a real product, it is bypassing the phone DAC, so it can be better, whether it is remains to be seen. It is kind of funny that they had promo images with the Apple earpods though, I doubt you would notice a difference with those.

ROFL

no...no you won't

edit: I shouldn't say that. It's entirely possible you'll hear a difference, but "better" is going to be up for debate. It's very difficult to hear such things in car audio.

Has Apple allowed a custom EQ yet? When I had an iPhone everything sounded terrible and I couldn't EQ it the way I wanted. Without that changing I don't see this doing much.

LG's new G5 has an optional external DAC and their V10 has a built in audiophile quality DAC and OPAMP. It's one reason why I bought the V10. The battery life sucks, but it has practically every hardware feature you could want and at the time it came with a free second battery and 200 GB uSD card.
