Kickin' TwinMos!

I have been testing some of the pairs of Ram that I have to prepare for a Canterwood in the near future, and found that two single sided 256MB sticks of TwinMos PC3200 (Winbond BH-5) really kick ass!! These are both sticks in my BH7 @ 2.8v (Check out the timings 😉 )

Above Memtest86 stable, 10 loops all tests..(C-1-2-2-3-0) 🙂

Nice! I can do those speeds in mhz but not in timings, but I think it's my mobo more than RAM. These Winbond BH-5 chips are the bomb 🙂

thats some mighty good ram there! :Q 😀

by comparison:
my "killer" XMS3000 took 2.9v to run that speed 100% stable

(2.9v = too much)

thats some mighty good ram there!
Thanks! I am surprised... If it will boogie like this in the IC7-G, it will be great.. 🙂 I bumped it up some more @ the same VDIMM and timings as above... I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will pass 10 loops of Memtest86 here: .. :Q

Wish me luck... 😉

EDIT: Fixed Sandra link...

Yeah but that's why you're backed by Corsair's warranty
no no no ~ i had no interest in running 2.9vdimm 😉
i backed it down to 2.6v and was able to run the same speed @ cas 2.5-3-2-7, which aint to shabby for 2.6v 😀
(cant get that stuff anymore anyways)

Technonut's TwinMos PC3200 is some really nice ram tho :Q

XMS has been the stuff to beat for quite some time ~ but its also the most expensive ram on the market.
we've been looking for comparible (but cheaper) ram since .....day 1.
Kingston HyperX and TwinMOS are starting to get some serious attention now. (and its about time we had an alternative!)

ive got some HyperX on the way ~ but im in no position to test for max speed anymore 🙁 (granite bay)

anyone know of a good place to buy twinmos?
good question

I purchased mine at MemoryX.

Check out this 3DMark2001 score with the TwinMos @ 463MHz.. This is using the 128MB Radeon 8500. (Not OC'ed) My 9700 Pro is currently in an AMD rig I am testing:

3DMark2001

Well, off to hit the hay and hope Memtest86 is still alive in the morning... 🙂

EDIT: Even if 463MHz 2-6-2-2 fails Memtest, I can live with 451MHz 2-6-2-2 anytime.. 😉

I checked reseller ratings and they're not listed. Never heard of them before. What I'd like to know is why they have the PC3700 listed as DDR400 😕

One more thing that just occured to me. I hadn't seen twinmos PC3700 with winbond chips before. Anyone know if those are legit? That'd be a pretty good deal if they were. Oh, and if anyone had ever heard of this company...

I got these links from another forum when I was considering buying Twinmos and it was all the rage.I ended up with OCZ PC3700.I still might get some Twinmos down the road but I want some 500DDR memory.😀

TwinMos PC3700 is legit. However, I don't think they use WinBond chips, but rather, their own branded chips. These could however, just be rebadged WinBonds, which is highly likely.

EDIT: I ignorantly failed to look at the Showtime computer link. It's probably legit, Showtime Computer from what I know is an official TwinMos distributor.

I just checked Twinmos' site and you're right. They're an authorized distributor. Might have to look into this now. It was worth a trip to their site just to see this actually 😛

To reach average or even better performance, we suggest only 1 module (256MB/512MB) on motherboard since most of the motherboard design is not for such high speed overcooking purpose

The Twinmos chips are rebaged Winbond from what I read. There isn't suppose to be any difference other than the name change. You can still order the ones with the Winbond chips at showstoppers for a few extra bucks or get the little cheaper rebaged Twinmos chips hoping they are just as good.

I don't know. I've heard of people getting bad results from the sticks listed with twinmos chips as opposed to hardly any bad things about the winbond sticks. Placebo memory effect? 😛 Besides, why would twinmos rebadge memory just to sell it cheaper? There might be some reason to do it but I don't see it.

that's what I heard too. BTW newegg has Geil 512MB PC3200 Ultra packs for $99 (2 sticks of 256). Anyone with good expierence with this stuff?

GeiL sticks are too unpredictable. They range from the obscenely horrible to the astoundingly wonderful. I'd go with a brand that has had more end-user exposure. Also, I don't think a lot of people around here really know much about GeiL's support.
