My wife is doing a bunch of work for her job, and I was up on our good PC playing City of Heros. About an hour in, she comes up and needs to use the scanner and some other office apps, and I get booted! 🙁

I need a second good computer... instead of just a crappy laptop backup.

We've all been there at some point. It's annoying too because they always say "well my stuff is more important". You have no comeback when you're goofing around. lol

Why didn't you make her use the laptop? Just say "This application is much more memory-intensive than the scanner and office apps, therefore it would be a misallocation of resources for you to use this computer and me the laptop."

I did a search for "scanner" and this thread came up.

For reference, I have found it easier to have a dedicated gaming machine.
This eliminates all kinds of BS with the office machine.
I only let in online long enough to download the CS:S patch that add bots. Then I disconnect it permanently.

get a wireless card for the laptop? in this case a networked scanner could work.
i can't imagine her office work needing that much power. unless she's working with really large databases. or you have a really old laptop.
