Kia to focus on small and sporty, Hyundai going upscale, sources say

Agreed. It's funny that the same reactions were heard when Toyota, Datsun and Honda were new to the US market. Even more when all three launched upscale brands.

Frankly, I think Hyundai should stick to its bread and butter: cheap small cars, at least until they're name becomes less synominis with crap. Their newer models appear to have corrected past mistakes so far, but its going to take at least a few more years to live down all the junk they initially released. Upscale cars are bought on name, and Hyundai isn't an upscale name at this point in time.

I saw a brand new Hyundai with dealer plates on it broken down on the side of the interstate yesterday, it might have been out of gas, but the hood was open...now I'm not so sure if I'm going to go after one of those for my next car anymore. I'll wait and see.
