Kia Sedona: a few thoughts.

http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/kia_sedo...html;_ylt=Ar_uJyj86Ten_GGxqt2QU_Q9jc0F

above is an expert review of this car.

here are my thoughts so far.

first off, the car runs a lot faster than you suspect, i got a ticket my first day driving it because it definitely didn't feel like i was going 80 when i was pulled over.

also, the sportmatic, 5 speed auto is pretty sweet. running it sportmatic, manual without clutch, you can really get this thing going fast quickly. i hit almost 40 in first gear at about 6500 rpm.

it puts out 244 HP at 6600 rpm and 253 ft/lbs of torque at 3500 rpms.

it's a great combo, my wife who usually drives it will never run this thing over 4k rpm and it will get pretty good gas mileage, i'll run it a bit faster and it won't feel so much like driving a minivan. 😉

also, it's equipped very very well. all the appointments. everything i can think of.

great car, i think we made a good decision buying this vehicle.

have kia's improved since they came out? because i remember them being horrible and unreliable. you get what you pay for.

well, i paid 27K so i hope i get what i paid for. 😉

and yes, the quality is EXTREMELY tight. you can feel it in every fitted component.

Well, why don't you come back in a year and let us know how it went. Being a brand new car you're not likely to find any defects at this time.

My 03 spectra is still happy and running well. I just need to get some new tires on it now.

Kia's used to be trash. horrible and unreliable. Now, they're still considered lower end cars, but they've improved a LOT. well, they have to if they want to catch up with the larger car companies.

I'd like to see where Hyundais are 5-10 years from now. They have dramatically jumped in quality in recent years and they are really pushing the envelope.

The Sonata has received some amazing reviews.

🙁🙁🙁 I miss my 97 sephia. It *was* supposed to be horrible and unreliable but it turned out to be the best car ever. My pops got it real cheap cause we werent sure if we were gonna stay in teh country. It was the plainest car you'd ever see. No power anything, no ac, no radio. It was the bare minimum car with the most advanced feature prolly being its airbags. Anyway, I learned to drive stick on it and so did my little sister. However, last summer after 8 years of impeccable service with no problems, the car died. my dad figured it wasnt worth the repair. I miss the car so much 🙁🙁🙁

actually, check out the Hyundai Entourage (to be released this fall). it's a rebadged Kia Sedona. for me that was the deciding factor, i think hyundai has gone a long ways to proving themselves over the last 3 yrs. the Kia Sedona is a rebadged Hyundai.

I've driven the older one. It totally drove like a boat. It felt like it would tip over if taking a curve too fast. The Odyssey was much better in the handling department. How does the new one handle? Is it tighter than the older one?

it's extremely tight. it seems to handle as well as my Olds Intrigue.

seriously tho, if you take a look at it and compare it side by side with a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, you'll be shocked at how competitive it is. it's right up there with the sienna in ever category.

it even has this feature where, when you put the car in reverse, the exterior side mirrors point down.

My MDX has had that feature since 2001. I'm pretty sure the Odyssey has it too.

I wasn't too impressed with the old Sedona. I did not feel confident driving that car at all. I'm sure the new one is better though. Is it still based on the old Winstar frame or is it a new frame?

my mom has an 02 sedona and it still is doing pretty darn well. for being 4 years old, a few squeaks are acceptable in my opinion and it only has one - 1 of the rear trim panels is loose from beng mashed in by a mower or something like that, otherwise, still does quite well, only real complaint on it is that its not the greatest on gas, but otherwise, its great
