Kia Commercials

Can someone explain to me the logic behind Kia commercials. Aside from the fact that their car's blatantly rip off the exterior look of certain luxury brands, they try to directly compare themselves to those brands. They basically go as far as to say someone should directly compare a Kia to a Lexus, BMW, Mercedes etc. and pick the Kia because it is less than half the cost.

I am curious if anyone out there actually goes to a Kia dealership thinking the are buying a luxury brand or if the advertisers are coming off as silly to everyone else as they are to me.

You should change the title to reflect the pollage, and say "Do you think the KIA ad's are crazy?" instead of "Do people really believe them?"

Two different questions.

I think it's great marketing. Kia/Hyundai are all about value for your dollar. What better to prove that than to directly compare options/performance/dimensions to something that costs twice as much?

They aren't saying their cars are better than BMW. They are simply saying you can get a lot more for your dollar with them.

People get them because they're cheap and probably won't fall apart for at least a few years, not because anyone will confuse them with a Lexus. I haven't seen a single Kia that didn't look like ass, but I guess if you have no money and don't want used they'd be OK.

I personally think the Hyundais look much nicer now.

Funny you say that, since Kia and Hyundai are the same company and share designs. Look at Hyundai's Minivan, it's a Kia Sedona.

That said, I'd buy a Kia over pretty much any car (other than Hyundai) at this point, as they're less expensive, have high safety ratings, look pretty decent, and are generally good cars.

Nothing like saving money getting from point a to point b. I laugh at all the idiots who spend 25% more for 4 wheels and an engine.

I  my Kia.

I compared mine to a Lear Jet, it was a much better bargain when you consider the licensing and such ;)

I think the ad campaign is silly because the luxury car market is about spending large amounts of money on a status symbol that not everyone can afford. Whether the vehicle is actually better or not is of less importance. If your average Joe can afford the car, that takes away from its appeal.

Haven't seen the commercials and 'NO' I wouldn't buy a Kia.

But I do hope their efforts at building luxe for less result in deflation of auto prices by forcing true luxury marques to drop prices.
Kind of like a Wal*Mart effect which helps stave off inflation.

Downward pricing pressure is always good!

Yah, so are those piece of shlt Ford commercials, comparing it to bmws, by saying how it's faster than the bmwX5, more fuel efficient, 1/4 of it's price, the only advantage is that is has more cup holders, blab blah blahh.. and yet it probably will break down after 30k or catch on fire.

btw, Mercedes are lame.

If you want to relentlessly pursuing perfection, you need to be driving the ultimate driving machine. You can't be the ultimate driving machine if you're still thinking about it. You can zoom zoom all you want, but if you're like a rock you're not gonna get far, even with the power of innovation.
