Just picked this up for $39.99. You basically have all sorts of mirrored pieces and a laser at each end of the board. You get to make 1 move each turn, in which you can rotate a piece 90 degrees or move a piece one spot. After your turn you press your laser button, and the laser reflects on your pieces and such. BUT if the laser runs into a non-reflective side of a piece, that piece is taken out regardless of who it belongs to. You win when you hit the opponents 'king tut' piece with the laser.

There's a couple other special rules but nothing too complicated. I recommend trying this out sometime if you're a fan of chess. It's pretty tough at first as most folks don't really think about angles and such... it's a totally different way of thinking. I'm loving it.

That looks really cool.

Amazon has it for less than that price, for those interested.

Why is this being sold? Free versions of this have been available for at least 15 years now.

People have been giving out free lasers, boards, and mirrored pieces for 15 years?

Oh my bad, this is an actual board game. That is why one should actually visit the link before commenting.

:D

Yeah, probably a good idea ;)

And you make it sound like it's been a free PC game for a while now. Is that true as I haven't found any such thing?

Saw this at one of those game stands at the local mall. Looks sorta interesting, I'm worried the novelty will wear off tho.

Laser Chess first appeared on the Commodore systems. My Vic20 didn't have enough memory, so I couldn't run it. Anyhow, I just picked up the game, the board is very large. It's like 22"x16". Sucks that I had to pay $60 CND for it. Now I just to get someone over to play it :(

If you want to see how it plays check out a mall if you have one close. All of the gaming (not video gaming) stores I've seen has khet on display to get an idea of how it works.

Lol at the FAQ:

Q: Is this just another strategy game that only dweebs, geeks, and nerds will enjoy?

A: No! Product testing shows that players of all ages find Khet easy to learn and fun to play. In fact "geeks" was the only group to give a 9 out of 10 on overall enjoyment, instead of the usual 10 out of 10 from all other groups, including swimsuit supermodels.

Some local stores have it. I'll check into it this weekend, thanks. One that's two blocks away wants $52 for it, which seems ridiculous since it's $7 over retail.

I plan on devising bug-khet (bughouse khet)... not sure if it would be too powerful to place a piece.
