I came across this site while trying to find good math tutorials, and he is impressive! So far I've found the videos really helpful, which are each about 10 minutes each, good for e-attention spans.

khanacademy.org

Salman Khan (Sal) founded the Khan Academy with the goal of using technology to educate the world.

Sal received his MBA from Harvard Business School. He also holds a Masters in electrical engineering and computer science, a BS in electrical engineering and computer science, and a BS in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Iirc from an interview vid, he quit his job as a hedge fund analyst(?) and decided to put up a few vids for fun. They really caught on, and now he's up to 1200 so far.

Enjoy.

/edit: 1400 vids, he's done every one of them, altho others have been translating them various other languages (spanish).

/edit: There are also exercises for a relatively short list of subjects (algebra to trig) that appears he's currently developing.

/edit: from posting below:
I used this to get through Calculus I last semester (barely) and it was invaluable - way more helpful than my professor.

I just checked out some of the videos on topics I vaguely remember from college. Pretty cool, very nice approach to the subject.

I'm trying to learn some calculus. So far he's made it interesting, but we'll see how good he is or how bad I am.

Also bookmarked...maybe he can teach me algebra...

I'm fine with "regular math," but as soon as you put letters and squiggly lines in an equation...it becomes "fuzzy math" for me. :p

I took algebra in high school and did ok, (too busy with "other things" to really pay much attentions) but that was over 40 years ago...I think they changed the numbers or something. :p

Saw this guy on the news a while ago and thought it was interesting. Glad the OP posted this, maybe I can find some stats homework help...

The tablet he uses for his lessons has been upgraded a few times since he began, so some are much prettier and better resolution than others.

heard a story about this guy on The World, I think. sounds pretty cool.

You know, not the same thing at all, but MIT has a shit-load of free courses covering just about anything that you can download.

This guy has more degrees than the entire city of Detroit.

I tried looking at some of their material a year or two ago and it blew my head out of the water. I don't remember what I was looking at tho.

So far I find Khan's explanations refreshing...he's excellent at walking thru things in very simple terms with very understandable analogies. It's very unusual imo for a person this smart covering some advanced topics able to consistently speak in terms that 'less brain gifted people' :)oops:) can relate to.

I'd love to hear feedback from someone familiar with some of the more advance studies to see how they would rate his tutorials.

According to his Faq:

What equipment do you use to make your videos?

I use Camtasia Recorder ($200) + SmoothDraw3(Free) + a Wacom Bamboo Tablet ($80) on a PC. I used to use ScreenVideoRecorder($20) and Microsoft Paint (Free).

His Faq was last edited yesterday.
