From what I hear the release of the new Abit board (KG7) will be June 21, 2001. I have waited for this release for quite some time now, but I am wondering is my wait worth it? Will the Abit board be better than the Asus, which I have read many good articles. Has anyone read anything on the KG7? If so, I would really appreciate the link so I could read it for myself and also would love to hear everyones opinions on the boards.

It is really tough to render an opinion on a board that is not out yet...By the way, it may be mid-July. There are reviews of pre-production boards, but these can be very misleading since they don't use a motherboard that you or I can buy...

KG7 will probably be better for overclocking compared to the ASUS
thee ASUS will be more stable though.

Those venders on pricewatch advertising this board are well known to lead people on...You'll know when the board comes out if you read many forums...

Pay... that's a lot of idle speculation on your part. We have known for a long time that the Asus a7m266 does not have multipliers, so it is quite obvious that as far as o/cing is concerned that the kg7 has more for an o/cer to work with...

Yup... ASUS makes stable boards, ABIT makes tweakable ones...

In a way the A7M266 and the KG7 are very similar: both have a the same Northbridge and the same
Southbridge. In terms of benchmarks and real life performance, they will be therefore very similar as well. For sure we will see the usual review bla bla bla, making a big story out of 3% or even less ercent differences here and there, which are totally irrelevant for gaming or business applications.

On the other hand, the A7M266 is not available with on-board RAID and does not have the multiplier setting. Both is available with the Abit. The more appropriate comparison is therefore:

8K7A+ - 7DXR - KG7

Unless Abit totally screws up, don't expect any real difference in performance between them. For that you have to wait for the new SiS or Crush boards. It's more a matter of an additional option here and there, of price, availability, and personal taste.

Really into broad generalizations, huh?
