I have an ABit KG7 that I bought and installed a few monthes ago. It's a great motherboard, despite one HUGE problem that I'm having (maybe completely seperate from the motherboard).
I have 512megs of ram and my system knows that I do. But in any OS, after being booted up for a few hours, no matter what I'm doing, my ram usage is always at full. This happens in linux (with AND without X running), windows 2k, and windows 98. I tried updating the bios and tweaking the motherboard, to no avail.
The weird thing about it is that nothing is using that much ram. It's just disappearing. For example, here's a current sample from top:
10:32:49 up 1 day, 6:50, 4 users, load average: 0.43, 0.37, 0.28
77 processes, 75 sleeping, 2 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 3.6% user, 3.6% system, 0.0.% nice, 92.8% idle
Mem: 514216K total, 510308K used, 3088K free, 2000K buffers
Swap: 9635K total, 0K used, 96352K free, 28386K cached
%MEM TIME COMMAND
11.9 10:11 XFree86
10.8 2:47 vmware
6.0 0:26 galeon-bin (5 duplicates)
beyond that, everything is at <2.2% usage.
Even when I close everything except X (and galeon of cou rse), the usage goes down a bit for a little while, and then quickly climbs back to where it was (even after exiting X).
I've tried multiple kernels and even Windows OSs, all with the same result. Has anyone ever seen a problem like this before? How might I go about solving it?
System Specs:
ABit KG7
T-bird 1.4
512mb Crucial PC2100 (2x256)
other stuff that is irrelevent.
