keys and mouse 'sticking' in odd situations

my pc has developed a new problem, when playing certain games (at the moment the list includes dark messiah and hl2) my keys stick, whether i hold them in for a long or a short while, resulting in my sprinting off a cliff or out of cover and to certain death

nothing seems to help, the mouse and the keyboard just seem to become unresponsive and the key that i was pressing at the time 'sticks', once they become responsive there's this laggy 'catchup' of the keys that i frantically pressed while the kb & mouse were unresponsive

my setup is the logitech mx3000 cordless kb & mouse (laser)
i've had this setup for more than a year now and the issue has only appeared recently
it only happens in certain fps games, not all of them
it's not sticky keys
it's not the repeat rate on my keyboard
changing batteries doesn't help
changing usb ports doesn't help
i've recently reinstalled xp pro sp2 with the latest updates and i have a feeling it's got something to do with that...

i've read forum posts of other people experiencing the same problem but noone has come up with a solution/explanation so far

please help!!!

thanks

First: I have absolutely no idea as to what the problem could be.

Secondly, here are some ideas:

- certain hotfixes were installed on your old system that prevented these errors, the new system doesn't have them (it)
- other USB device is causing the problem, btw, have you enabled (if possible) IRQ for USB in BIOS?
- chipset driver you had installed on the old system was compatible, current one is not so
- radio interference
- OC related problem
- faulty hw

Have you tried to use them on a different comp (with different chipset)? Just to make sure it's not the input hw.
