For what? Monitoring company property? It's legal for them to do so.

anything you do on company time on company equipment is fair game. no lawsuit. I don't agree with using a keylogger though, as it may reveal personal details of the employees (banking info, etc.). Get something that will capture periodic screenshots and monitor web activity instead.

Show me one case that has been won...

Don't try to scare this guy about something that isn't illegal.

Look up PC Tattle tale, try the free demo (lasts 7 days.)

It's supposed to be a spy program for parents to monitor literally every single thing their kid does on the PC....... well, it'd make the perfect program for you as well. Takes screenshots every few seconds, in stealth mode it's invisible, has a keylogger, tells you every program that's ever been opened. :)

I think he's just making stuff up.

OP, ifyou want to monitor more than just keystrokes, consider something like Spectorsoft.

How would one know/find out if a program like this was running on the PC? Does it show up in Task Mangler? Startup script? MSCONFIG?

If they are willing to pay Spector Pro is hard to beat. It will log everything that goes on. Hell, it will even take stealth screenshots of a the PC's desktop and email them without the user knowing.

I've tested it out (on myself :p) before, to try to help a friend get around the program. As long as you have it in stealth, it won't show up on the task manager, I know for sure, IDK completely about the others, never checked. The only way to access the program when in Stealth mode is to press Crtl + Alt + F5 and input the correct password.

In the end, I came to the conclusion the only way he'd ever get out of it is to play counter-surveillance and use a keylogger on his parents, but obviously they'd be able to see him installing it, so that wouldn't work out too well :p

Basically, you WOULDN'T know. Personally I think using this program against kids/teens is excessive and an invasion of any form of privacy, but, nothing I can do.

Nope, not panic, just curious. :) I've asked this question before and never really got a straight answer. I run Adaware and Spybot S&D on my machine at work 2-3 times per week (others use the box on other shifts)...but they probably wouldn't pick up a keylogger.

*EDIT*
Thanks, Extelleron. :)

I found one at my former job by using FileMon. I saw some odd writes going to certain file paths. Then I did a search for the path on the internet and saw it was the default "save to" path by some monitoring program. I hated that job, so after I found out, I started typing to my boss what I thought of him. I was fired the next day. I have a much better job now that I've had for the past two years.

Manager fired at my work for stock trading during work hours. Lawyerd up with one of those privacy groups... Sued the state and got his job back because he was being illegally monitored with a keylogger. The network security agent who was monitoring is now pending disciplinary hearings and possibly charges against him.
