Keyless entry on NON-power locks vehicle.............

I've got a vehicle whose driver door lock is working less & less often.......(I'm not a locksmith but guessing that "pins" are not setting within the cylinder??)

I'm about 99% sure it's not a case of WD-40 & presto, but more a case of the lock simply starting to fail. Door opens fine no probs there, etc., but if it doesn't open after 20 tries, I've got to go over to the passenger door, unlock it, reach over, unlock driver door, then go back around & get in.

Now, I can either spend a couple hundred bucks & have a new lock installed & add a key to the keyring........but somebody else suggested I just have an alarm w/ keyless entry put in..............however............this car is manual locks, not power. Without pullin' solenoids out of an old caddy.........are there cheap alarm systems that include this upgrade?

TIA

The solenoids aren't going to be cheap, nor running all the wire to run them.

Just do it with one door, and only one switch on the door (and the remote reciever in the door). Then it's cheap and a simple wiring job.

The cheapest fix is to see if you can move the passanger side lock to the drivers side.

Edit: You might as well check with the dealer to see the cost of a new lock. It might not be that much.

Adding actuators isn't expensive nor hard to do, and is even necessary on some vehicles with power locks when adding keyless entry. The actuators are relatively cheap, so it doesn't add much (if any) to the overall price of the keyless entry/security system.

You could just add keyless entry for the driver's door if you wanted the cheapest way out.

Ya, that's all I'd care about, just the one door. And, sure I *could* switch the lock from the passenger door over to the driver door, but it's gonna be a PITA to get in there anyway and really don't wanna have to pull 2 doors apart to get to it. (Though my cheap side is tempted, for sure!)

Anybody know what happens as to why the locks go like that?? What's really funny is that I can "lock" the door from the outside with the key all day & night, (turn key CCW) but can't turn it to the right (CW). (Grrrrrrrrr!!!) Except for every once in about 20 turns and it'll turn as easy as butter.

???????

I would just swap the driver/passenger locks as noted, shouldn't be that hard unless they welded them to the door.
