I am replacing the front door on my house with a fiberglass door. I currently have a steel door that is painted black. It faces west and gets extremely hot to where the entire door including the handle can almost burn you in the middle of summer. The door itself is falling apart. The bevelled window glass is falling out, the plastic frame around the glass is cracked, and the door itself is in poor shape.

So, going with the new fiberglass door that should remain cooler and will be painted a lighter color, I want to replace the deadbolt and handle. The handle will be traditional with no lock, but the deadbolt I want to be keyless and without a numberpad. Our backup if the deadbolt fails to work would be to go in through the garage, but I'm looking for a minimal deadbolt look on the door. I've seen a couple on amazon that have less than stellar reviews. Anyone have a deadbolt without keypad or key that works with NFC or bluetooth and is one they would recommend?

be careful about the app based keyless locks. I somehow doubt they'll be updating the apps 20 years from now to work on current mobile devices. Why no keypad?

I'm wanting a minimalistic approach but finding it hard to do. Some require bluetooth 4.0 which only a few android devices have which won't work for me. It looks like a keypad is the best bet along with bluetooth or NFC. I was looking for a completely hand free option (minus turning a handle), but most solutions out there seem unreliable. A keypad with a cover would also suffice but those aren't super common either.

I'd be concerned with two things: will it continue to be supported 10 generations of devices from now - that's the primary thing. To a lesser extent, how long before thieves know how to get past them?

I want one that would use bluetooth or wireless so I don't see that technology going away anytime soon. If it lasts for 10 years, great, I'll get something else then that matches the current style. I would be concerned about thieves hacking them, but then again, my neighborhood has very very little crime and neighbors leave their garage doors open often, front doors unlocked, etc.

If you had a transporter pad made to look like to round stones.....you and your other half could stand on them and transport right into your home!! That's about as keyless as your going to get.....

You're probably right. In my mind, I envision a door that when you walk up to within a foot or two of it, you hear an audible click and then you can push against the magnetic seal (much like a fridge door has), and push the door open without having to put down your groceries or boxes or work or whatever. Maybe instead of that, you hear the click and then can push down on a levered handle with your elbow or whatever to open the door and not need to fumble with keys to unlock the deadbolt. I figured as long as I was replacing the door, I'd update the locks and handle as well, but maybe its just not feasible right now to do what I want.
