This was something I never considered before, but I guess when you love to game, having good tools, the box, a nice mouse and LCD, of course are what it takes, but what about the keyboard?

Well I went on a quest looking and found some boards, at least with all the hype it sure looks like it.

imo GAMING keyboards are really loaded with stuff you dont need. I use a Logitech media pro for gaming and it works just fine. No need for all the fancyness.

IBM Model M

Nearly indestructible
No pointless keys like "The Windows Key" to hit while gaming to crash you to desktop while playing quake 3.

I use a Logitech Media keyboard, I pretty much only play RTS games so I only need the numbers and Ctrl keys. Spending any more on a keyboard would have been a waste for me. However me and my G5 get along nicely. :D

I think it's stupid to say "gaming keyboard" it's a keyboard for gosh sakes doesn't make you really any better at gaming by getting a gaming keyboard....

My two fav keyboards:
Logitech Elite ( older one not newer )

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823109137

edit: I wanted to say that the Model M's are way to loud and not to mention how it is biege and has no style what so ever or multimedia buttons.

I've got a g15 and I love it. The LCD screen is mostly just for the "hey that's cool" effect, but you can do some fun stuff with it using LCD studio and such. I mostly just run it through fraps in game. The macro keys are also cool to have, i have complete sets of buy macros set up for counterstrike so i can just push a few buttons and i have the gun(s), ammo, 'nades, and armor of my choice. It's also useful in games where you need to push multiple butons to switch then fire a grenade, or something like that, oh, and the ability to disable the windows key with a switch is wonderful. The backlighting is also very nice. Overall, cool features, nice keyboard, but it won't make you a better gamer (contrary to what they might want you to think)

IMO, that razer seems loaded with features. 2 USB ports, a headphone jack, "interchangeable keys", if i was a millionaire, i would pick that up over all the other ones just because i want to waste money :)

Just a basic keyboard with lighting, lights is what I needed for that late night gaming. I checked too, this thing is just plug n play, no cd software crap, now I like that. ;)

I've got a G15 kb. I wouldn't say it makes you a better gamer or something stupid like that. But it sure as hell is convenient when doing emotes and the like in Guild Wars. Not to mention I programmed the hell of out of the kb for shortcuts and stuff for normal windows operation, as well as got some scripts going for displaying hd status & CPU usage (great for BOINC).

Well, good for you, just because his "broke", doesnt mean that they're all gonna "break"...I have one and I, like many others, love it. Defects cant be avoided in the computer industry, you should know that. And define "broke"

I have two Saiteks Eclipse. One is red colored and the other is blue colored lighting through the keys. I got one of each to see which color I prefer the most. The only thing they offer that many other good keyboards dont is their lighted keys. Other than that their is nothing really superior about them. They have no extra bells or whistles to them. Pretty barebones in appearance and smaller than some keyboards from MS and Logitech. They are good for after dark use I admit. I find that the the red colored keys are best at night. The room I have the PCs set up in dont have any overhead lighting and only one lamp for the entire room, which doesnt give off alot of light, so they are ideal in that respect. If you have a well lit room though you dont need a keyboard with lighted keys.

One of my PCs also has the Logitech MX3100 keyboard and mouse. I like Logitech keyboards very much btw. Just as good, if not better, than a Microsoft keyboard but not as pricey. Only thing I wish the Logitech keyboard had is the lighted keys like the Saitek Eclipse.

I reckon the mouse makes alot more difference than a keyboard. I'm just using a MS mutimedia k/b, and a logitech MX510 mouse.

i have a saitek eclipse and it sux. i paid $50 for this thing, NOT for the lights, and this thing is worse to type on than the POS keyboards at my school. It is not QUIET, only semi-comfortable, and the keys are not stable enough. I've been using this keyboard for 3 months or so and there definitely isn't a good keyboard feel. Although, your tastes might be different, especially since all you're probably going to be using is the wasd, space, and whatever other keys you're going to use. the space is big on the saitek, but rattles.

I use a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 keyboard to do all my gaming/typing/progging. Best one I've used. Nothing comes close to how good this thing feels and I've found that I type faster/more accurately with this keyboard.

As I have said before, the G15 is the best keyboard ever. Im an absolute G15 fanboy, and proud of it.

nixs: that slider to the left of the LCD screen is the function to turn the windows key off. slide it to teh joystick, and no more windows key. As for the CS, check out the G15 forums, they have some apps for it im pretty sure. g15forum.com, or something like that.
