Keyboard wont function for a new build

Hey guys, built a new pc last night. Everything is working fine, but my keyboard (usb) wont work. It gets power from the computer but the keys dont work so I'm thinking its because of drivers.

Do I have to buy a ps2 keyboard to get it to work first? I cant really get into bios without a keyboard.

Have you tried other usb ports? You should be able to get into bios IF the keyboard is good..

Is there another pc that you can test the keyboard with?

Do you have another keyboard?

If USB support is turned off in bios, you will need a PS2 keyboard to enable it.. Do other usb devices work?
Try your "work keyboard"..

Drivers only load with the OS, so they have nothing to do with entering the BIOS. It's most likely related to a setting in the BIOS. Is this a new motherboard or an old one? You may want to pull the CMOS battery out of the board to clear the settings. The default should allow a USB device to function, but if your wireless keyboard doesn't work, trying a wired USB keyboard may be an answer. Not because of drivers, but perhaps because of the interaction between the BIOS settings and the wireless transmitter.

generally the only USB ports that work for bios access is the two located at the "top" of the board, in the area where the old PS2 connectors use to be. The bios is not smart enough to check every usb port the computer has looking for a keyboard.

Being "powered" is not enough to be a indicator of the keyboard working.

Any port that's running off the main chipset should be fine. Usually there are 4-6 of those on the rear I/O panel.

OP, can you list out your specs?
