keyboard: usb, ps2, or does it matter?

but some usb keyboards can function as a usb hub.

don't bother with a usb keyboard, it will just use up a usb slot, and nothing you could possibly do on your keyboard would require a connection better than ps2! Mice on the other hand work better with a USB connection, esp. optical ones

I have a USB keyboard and connect a 4-port hub to the back end of it. My USB mouse is connecte on that hub. So, if I move my keyboard from one workstation to the next, all of my USB devices come with it. Although, I just learned that disabling the PS/2 keyboard device in Win2K is very, very bad, I've had no problems.

Of all the USB devices I have, I *think* that a USB keyboard needs to be directly connected to the motherboard instead of through a hub. But, I could be wrong.

the only USB keyboard i'd get is one w/ a built in hub like the MS internet PRO..

otherwise, u're wasting a USB port for no reason.

If you aren't unplugging and plugging back in the keyboard constantly I don't see a point in using a USB keyboard. You have a port already that does nothing else besides act as a keyboard port and it might as well be used.

I was kind of curious about the system resources being used for PS2 and USB keyboards. If there was a difference I would guess USB would take more CPU. Has anyone noticed any differences there?

uh, ps2 keyboards are hot-swappable too, not just USB ones...just unplug your keyboard and plug it back in..works!

cpu overhead on a keyboard?...i don't think so...

scuba, u're talking about mice there, not keyboards...and usb mice actually eat up to ~14% at times...

If you want to disable your ps2 port then you can use a USB keyboard (to free up irq's) but the problem with a usb only keyboard (The natural pro uses both) is that it won?t work in dos.
