One of my co-workers has been experiencing issues with her keyboard in Excel. She is using every large spreadsheets (for financial statements) and every so often, the keyboard will only respond to the first few characters that she types in a cell. This is random and once she clicks to another cell, she can normally type again. We have switched out keyboards (both USB and PS/2) and she still experiences this problem at random times. It can be very frustrating when entering large amounts of data. We are using Office XP. Her workstation is configured with Windows XP Pro, 3 GB DDR 2 5300, and a NVIDIA 8600GT in an HP DC5800. Her workstation also uses dual monitors as well for keeping e-mail and Excel up at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated, especially if you have had this issue before.

Take care,

Mark

There are a few things that can cause this type of behavior.

There is an Autosave feature/option and a timer that can cause this on really large Worksheets if the timer is too low.

In Options under the Tools menu item, there is a setting under Calculations for Iterations.
If this is checked and the number in the associated box is high, it can cause freezing at times.

A lot of interrelated formulas on the sheet can cause pauses.
The real fix for this is some redesign of how things are calculated.

Check your Addins under Tools.
You may not need all the ones that are selected. For that matter, there may be Addins that shouldn't even be there (Malware/Virus).

If you are running Macros/VB in the Worksheet (background), that can be a big cause of freezing.

The partial text in a cell I've seen when I haven't manually saved in a while after making a lot of changes (may be the case here).
