keyboard replacement or not

As long as it's not broke -- don't fix it. I would just continue using the same keyboard unless it really starts to function improperly. I really don't think it would be worth the money to replace the keyboard when it's simply because the keyboard lights are starting to fade a bit. However, keep in mind that I'm a broke college student, so that may have a bit of an influence on my opinion.
 
DigitalWanksta makes a good point, but I know with some people it can be a bit irksome to have a keyboard missing some of its letters. It just all depends on you. If you don't look at your keyboard while you type, then I don't think the replacement is necessary, but if you're like one of the people I just mentioned, the kind who need things to look "nice," then might as well go and get yourself a new keyboard. Your next keyboard, you should try looking for one that's known to last long without showing visible signs of wear. May I recommend the Hiper Clavier or the Saitek Eclipse (I or II)? They have laser-cut lettering, so the letters shouldn't rub off with time.... or at least that's what I think that means. LOL.

no I meant that all letters on keycaps are fading I don't know how to explain it.
 
What do you prefer in terms of key characteristics (tactility, noise, travel length, and profile)?

How important are bells and whistles (i.e. shortcut keys, volume control, media functions, backlighting, etc)?

Price range?

Wired/wireless?

 
If you have the key location memorized and don't mind the letter not being there, then don't waste money on a new keyboard.
 
Rottie, does one really NEED to see the label on each key? Why would you get those labels? Wouldn't that just ruin the backlight effect?

I can type no problem without looking, but if I had a pretty blue keyboard like that, I'd have to look at the lights. ....And eventually, seeing some of the letters missing would bother me.
 
My editor finally retired her 10 year old keyboard. It had almost no markings on ANY keys left, except for a few function keys. It looks remarkably similar to the 'leet' keyboards they sell with no labels on any keys.
 
Get a deck keyboard. Backlit & the letter embedded into the plastic. I consider getting it but its high price gives me pause. 🙁
 
On some forum I saw a post saying that one could apply transparent nail polish on the keys, and it would last for a bit till re-application was needed. Maybe its worth trying in your case.

Speaking of which, has anyone used the Logitech G11 keyboard? Do its keys fade out? I think the backlight looks awesome.
 
A good typist (I hunt and peck) should know where the Alphabet and Numbers
are at Blindfolded ... now those other oddball keys, that takes some getting used
to. Are you sure the keys are not just Dirty ? Try cleaning the tops with Windex
or similar .. most key caps are Injection Molded Plastic and the color should last
almost forever
