keyboard recommendations?

I'm looking for a keyboard that is silent (this is probably the most important attribute on a keyboard for me right now) with a standard layout. Extra buttons like media player controls are a very desirable.

Any recommendations?

IBM PC XT keyboard

* if silent is defined as "CLICK CLACK CLICK CLACK CLICK CLACK SMACK CLICK CLICK CLACK"

Still, it's the best keyboard ever made.
Mine (101 key keyboard branded PGA) has been working perfectly since 1996.

have you cleaned it out since then? :Q

I've never taken it apart, just rattled it upside down a few times above a trash can to get most of the the hair and fingernail fragments out. I've also recently cleaned the spaces between the keys with a long, pointy piece of metal and got a handful of hair out.

It's cable is excessively long, it has an AT-PS/2 converter and an additional PS/2-PS/2 cable attached. The total cable length is around six meters (when stretched).
It's great for playing FPS games, the layout is just perfect.

Hey where did you get that? Any B&M stores carry those??

You don't want one. They are ugly and the plastics resemble those used in the interior of a cheap American car.

Best buy carries them.

They are insanely awesome looking, especially with the lights out.

Modern design, and the quality of the backlighting is great.

Not to mention the keyboard has excellent tactile feedback

I like this Kensington laptop-style keyboard. It's what I've been using for the past three months. It works great, is silent, high-quality.. It feels a lot more sturdy than most laptop keyboards - kind of like an IBM laptop keyboard.

Plus, it doesn't waste a lot of space on my desk.

Get a touch pad keyboard....some thing like THIS.

Those are hard to use. The keys get really mushy and you eventually have to feel for the button mechanism under the keys.
