Anyone have a good keyboard reccommendation for a beginner? I've been wanting to play piano for a while. I would like it to have midi in/out. Pricewise, under/around $300 sounds good.

There are a wide range of keyboards that could work for you. It really depends on any past keyboard experience and what your plans are.

If you want to play the piano, a $300 keyboard probably won't cut it. You'd want 88 keys with weighted action to simulate the sensation of playing an actual piano. The cheapest digital piano I've seen like that costs ~$500 (e.g. Casio PX100). I personally use a Yamaha P60 (~$700).

If you don't plan on moving to an acoustic piano and don't have any prior experience with one, then a cheaper keyboard may work. I can't give any specific models but google for "digital piano" and look through the reviews on http://www.harmony-central.com/Synth/Data .

88 weighted keys would be nice indeed, but yeah, it'd probably be too much dough.

I'm a beginner, i had an old casio keyboard for a while, but i didn't play it much at all.

I've been looking at the Casio WK-3000 Professional Series, seems to be good reviews on it all around, and it's right in my price range. I still want some more reccommendations though.

I'm not a beginner, and I've been shopping for a keyboard for a while now, trying out as many as I could find. I'm getting the Yamaha p120, which is about $1200. But I get paid for playing, so I could justify the price - I'd rather have spent less, but this was as low as I could go and still get a good board. I like the way it feels.

I got a lot of advice and most of it was lousy :D . I suggest you look on ebay, and pick something that you can resell for a decent amount if/when you decide you don't like it, or you want to trade.

Ebay is usually the way to go. High shipping prices though...probably still save pretty big.

Still not any reccommendations though i see (good replies though ;) )

i haven't been around music for a long time (the last time in a music studio is probably in the early 90s, some 13 years ago), but here are some ideas:

Yamaha DX7
Korg M1

they used to be the mainstream of MIDI synthesizers. most likely new models from these two companies have been out since then, but i did a quick search on Ebay with these two as keywords, and they turned out as somewhat in your price range. good luck.
