keyboard leds flash when i shutdown

Well the title pretty much says it all. When I shut down my computer the keyboard will begin to flash for aboout 3-5 minutes (after shutdown, not during). I've been trying to read up on what this is indicating(if anything) with no success. Has anyone here experienced this?
 
It's actually ps2 and i'm not using a ps2 to usb adapter. I just find it odd, since this has not always occured.
