Running XP SP3 on a Dell Dimension 4600. 3.0Ghz processor, 2GB RAM. Format and fresh install of OS this past August. PC has been running fine. . .until this morning.
The setup includes a Dell wireless keyboard and mouse. Neither piece of hardware has ever caused a problem. But this morning the PC froze up and I wasn't able to do anything to correct the problem. So I rebooted manually and the same thing quickly occurred. Several reboots later I narrowed down the problem to the hotkeys on the keyboard. Whenever I hit the Home or Mail hotkeys, or any hotkey for that matter, the PC ceases to function. The mouse pointer can still move all over, but pointing and clicking on any desktop icon or file does nothing. As I said, a complete PC freeze up. And it's only the hotkeys. For example, I can open MS Word, type a letter, and everything is fine. But if I click on any hotkey, that's it. The PC becomes a paperweight.
I have run full scans with SuperAntiSpyware and Kaspersky. Both came up clean. I'm at a loss for what this could be. Anyone? Thank you.
