ok, lately my keyboard has developed a habit of dropping characters as I type. It happens at random, not a specific key either. I know i'm not a fast typer or anything. Is there something I can do to adjust this or is it time for a new keyboard?

ie: if I hit y five times fast, out of 5 tries, i'll usually get:
yyyyy
yyyyy
yyyy
yyyy
yyyyy

It just doesn't seem to be accepting the input. It also seems to be getting worse as time wears on.

Are there certain keys that are affected, or are all the keys susceptible? I'm thinking that your OLD keyboard is just getting worn out (whatever spring mechanism that your kb has to restore keys to the raised position). Is the kb dirty? Spill stuff on it?

it is dirty, but nothing out of the normal use realm. Every key is affected. I just notice when I type, I have to go back more and more to add letters. At first I thought it was my typing but more and more are getting dropped. I thought it was the repeat setting but i'm not sure that would drop characters, I thought that was only for consecutive keystrokes of the same key.

EDIT> added more letters
