Keyboard Freezing Up.

This isn't for me. I took the liberty of posting this here to try to help out a friend in a different forum I frequent. I hope that's OK.

Here goes:

I've had lots of problems before with my system locking up, but lately, every once in a while, my keyboard stops responding. Everything else continues to work but can't type. Just curious to see if anyone else has experianced this and found a specific problem. I think it's only happenned 4 times now, so I'm not too worried about it.

More info! System specs.. when does it lock up? everything else works but the keyboard? has he tried a new keyboard? is he overclocking?

Come on people! What do you expect. It's like talking to a vet on the phone and saying my dog is sick, and then asking if he has any ideas about what it could be?

sorry to go ranting a little, but this happens far too often here.

Once you post the info i think people here would love to help out.

Here is the info I got from the guy. I'll try to find out more as needed.

566 celeron running at 533 on a pc chips motherboard
ps2 keyboard
256 mb ram
3 hd's
2 cd's
ps2 mouse
headset, joystick etc.

Most of what I have on the system is most likely irrelevant. The keyboard has now locked up maybe 6 times in 2 years,I doubt that it is a conflict. I have tried to replicate the problem with no avail. It has happened 4 of the 6 times with ICQ chat. That may have something to do with it, but the other 2 times, once playing UT, and the other typing in notepad. I wasn't expecting anybody to try and diagnose it for me I was more or less interested in finding out if anybody has had it happen to them before. The computer still works fine with the mouse, and every prog will still function(as long as I don't have to type )

Again, because it happens infrequently, I'm not too worried about it. I'm not too happy with this motherboard and was planning on updating soon anyways.Motherboard won't recognize my optical mouse, I was able to try it on a friends system with the same board and it wouldn't work either, but it works in any other type of motherboard that I have tried it on.
