Keyboard freezing up...

Well I dont know how to get around this...the hardware at work...just a Logitech PS2 keyboard and an Asus A7V600 mobo with the newest BIOS Version 1008.

Basically, the system boots fine into Windows XP, at the login screen, the PS2 mouse works fine. But if I hit the num-lock key on the keyboard (to see if the num-lock is toggling on/off), the sytem freezes and of course, the num-lock light stays on. Stuck...dont know what to do...

It just so happened, I had all intentions of reinstalling XP tonight, so as I was booting off the XP CD-ROM, I would press the num-lock key as all the .dll's and all the necessary files are being shown loaded at the bottom of the screen, and the light goes on and off just fine, so I know the keyboard is working. BUT, as soon as it comes to the first input screen (Enter to Continue, R to Repair, Esc to Quit), the keyboard doesnt work and the system is freezed up.

I have messed with the USB Legacy settings in the BIOS, and that doesnt fix it. The keyboard works fine in the BIOS, the POST, the booting up of the OS, just freezes at the first input screen of Windows (login or install).

I have tried different PS2 keyboards, same problem.

Please help...any suggestions????

The keyboard's plugged into the purple port for sure, not the green one?

Didnt think to check that...but I just looked and the keyboard is plugged into the purple port for sure.

On a whim, I thought about swapping the mouse and keyboard onto the opposite PS2 ports, but that just gives the ole "keyboard not found" error...

Any other ideas??

Well heck...I got it to work now. But I still would like to know why the hangup.

The mouse is hella old Microsoft Laser Intellimouse, but it has the USB-to-PS2 adapter on it. I unplugged the mouse, pulled the USB adapter off of it, plugged it into an available USB port, enabled USB legacy in the BIOS, and just left the keyboard plugged in by its lonesome in the PS2 port.

And it booted up fine, no freezes as I watch XP install right now.

Any ideas though as how the USB-to-PS2 on the other port interferes with the PS2 keyboard port?
