What was wrong with it? It might help someone else with a similar problem.....well, it would if the search function would ever be made to work again.

True about search.... seems useless these days - sometimes you just have to know which posts are floating around AT because Search will never find them again.


Problem was in keyboard Regional/International language settings. Many Canadians think they're being clever when they choose "Canadian English" but that changes all the punctuation to french characters instead of questions marks, etc.

I changed it to US english (which worked) then closed the language bar, which brought the problem back again. Canadian English was set as primary, US as secondary. Removing Canadian English entirely solved the problem.

I fixed this problem tons in the Win98 era, but was new to the change in XP. Took a little digging in Windows Help but I found it easy enough.
