This may be something totally different, but in my BIOS I have the option to halt the POST if a keyboard error occurs. If it's disabled, I can boot normally even if a keyboard is not connected.
Anyways, all I can really suggest is to try another keyboard and see what happens.
I have two PS/2 ports on my mobo. I tried a second PS/2 keyboard in both ports. Same error. I can't get into setup to change the bios without the keyboard.
Update. I rebooted from a Rescue Disk. Rolled back system (XP). Restarted. Got an error message which indicated a possible Blaster Worm. But no problems with keyboard. Until I re-scanned with SystemWorks to see if I had a Blaster Worm. No Worm detected, but keyboard problem returned immediately after scan completed. Now computer won't reboot from Rescue Disk. So it's definitely something that happens with the virus scanning software. Would a different rescue disk help?
