Keyboard emitted the most radiation?? WTF??

I hope this is a damn joke, but someone forward an email to me
and it says that the radiation level should be < 25 V/m within 30cm.....
and it also says that...

Keyboard emiited 1000V/m
Mouse emiited 450V/m
Monitor emiited 218V/m
System emiited 170V/m
Notebook emiited 2500V/m

WTF ..... are you kidding me now... keyboard emitted the most radiation.?!?! ... please tell me this is just bs ....

Hmm..

I would take V/m to mean electromagnetic radiation.

Not the microwaving kind.

It would make sense, since a keyboard is basically just a circuit board with lots of copper running around on it.

But I dunno.

Nothing on Snopes. I think it's one of those emails where they try and scare you with a buzzword, like Radiation, without really telling you the whole story.

Most people aren't going to really know what a V/m is, and are just going to see numbers. And bigger numbers = bad.

What frequency? I think keyboards are small computers unto themselfs, perhaps there is radiation at the keyboard operating frequency. Since there is little or no shielding on a keyboard I am not terribly surpised that there is some emmisions.

Its in an email, thus it must be true

Come on, its either a bunch of BS, or some special kind of radiation, probably sound emitted or some shiznit to make it sound like its a bad thing, forget it, you'll live

The hype over electromagnetic radiation is as silly as PETA saying milk causes acne.

Man, people are living so long these days they make up crap to be scared of.

For those who don't know, any electronic device emits an electromagnetic field. It is, for all intents and purposes harmless in any item you would have in your home. In fact, not a single peer reviewed and repeatable study has shown harm from any ordinary household appliance, or even high voltage lines... despite the myths and rumors.

V/m are units of electric field. Radiation from something like microwaves usually isn't measured like that, so I tend to call BS on this. However, a keyboard uses changes in capacitance to sense keystrokes, and capacitors have big electric fields inside them (because of the large change in potential over such a small distance), so there may be some basis to this, but the field would be inside the keyboard, and so you really wouldn't be "exposed" to it.

Is this a wireless keyboard? 😛

'radiation' in the general sense is harmless.

Now if you're near decomposing radioactive materials, then it's potentially harmful. Also extremely high amounts of energy being radiated at certain frequencies (Microwaves, in particular) are harmful as well.

Your smoke detector is going to kill you before your computer.

lol that's why i have my smoke detector off

It's actually the mouse pad that emits most radiation 🙂
