Keyboard doesn't work for XP login

I've had kind of a weird problem lately that I've been having quite a bit of a problem trying to fix. Recently my laptop overheated in the 100-degree NYC weather and automatically shut itself down. When I let it cool down and booted it back up, it got to the XP login screen, but the keyboard wouldn't respond to anything.

Hooking a USB keyboard up to the laptop allowed me to log in, and then once that process was complete, the integrated keyboard worked again. Oddly enough, though, the integrated keyboard works fine for getting into the BIOS and the boot menu for Windows, but not for the login screen. This has happened repeatedly since without exception. Has anyone else experienced something like this before?

I've got a dell here that requires a quick bios setting for the keyboard to work during the boot.ini menu.

No ... but I would reinstall the Motherboard Chipset or the Drivers for the
built in Keyboard ... it is possibe, due to the heat that a key may be stuck
or not making contact when you depress it ... also check the cable from
the keyboard to the mobo is properly attached at both ends
