Keyboard does not respond at login screen

I used the Restore function from V-COM's Fix-It Utilities 6 bootable CD to restore my comp and now whenever Windows boots to the log in screen, the keyboard stops responding. Its a USB keyboard.

I can press DEL or F8 during boot to enter BIOS or the OS Boot choice menu, but oncew Windows loads (everything looks normal during boot), the keyboard stops working. I can still use my mouse as normal, but I cant type a password. When I boot to safe mode, the same thing happens.

What could be causing my keyboard to behave like this, and what can I do to fix it?

I have already tried a few things:

-unplug keyboard and mouse to reset the controller. Windows booted without either, which I thought was odd. I went to BIOS and found and changed the Stop on Error option from "All, but keyboard" to "All errors" and rebooted without the keyboard attached, this time it hung, but plugging it in then or after another reboot didn't make it work once it got to login.

-try a PS2 keyboard. It said no keyboard was found with errors turned on. When I turned them off (switching back to USB keyboard to do so) it booted to login, and still no response. Unplugging and replugging didnt change anything.

I do not have a WinXP repair CD.

Try reinstalling the Motherboard Chipset Drivers
for the Keyboard .... it may also be the USB
Drivers .. they are usually loaded from Windows XP
but the chipset that runs the USB may need drivers
as well first.

yea I had this problem before too.

I think it occurred when I ran some tools from system mechanic 6.0 it was a bad version my fault on that...

and if you check your device manager, your USB controllers should be all screwed up. LIKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYWHERE!!

I forgot which method worked for me, but I remember this happening to me on more than one occasion.

Run system restore from windows
or sadly...fresh install 🙁

because with my deal, it was because of the windows USB drivers that got screwed, not the chipset's

As I said, I can't login, can I do this from BIOS or something?

Can'tl ogin, can't check device mgr. I don't have a XP install CD, so a fresh install is out. I fixed this problem before, but I can't recall how =/

Check Legacy USB Support is Enabled in BIOS .... If that is ok, you will need a Windows XP CD of
the proper version ... XP Home or XP Pro with either no SP on it or with SP1 or SP2 already on
it, depending on what Service Pack your pc's windows system was already at ... XP will not
let you do a Repair Install with a cd with less than the Service Pack currently installed

You can however, format the drive & start a brand new install
