Keyboard disconnects as soon as...

I am simply trying to install WindowsXP Pro in an old desktop Toshiba, P3 450Mhz, 128ram.
Everytime the installing process reaches the part when the Setup asks you to setup WinXP, repair, or quit, the keyboard quits! I know it sounds weird, but it simply stops from being available. Its light goes off. Unfortunately disconnecting and connecting it again doesn't do anything. I already tried another keyboard without success.

What can I do?

I'll try Win2k now.

Thanks in advance guys 🙂

I've had some issues like that, but only when trying to use a USB keyboard, never with a PS/2. It sounds like some driver that loads during the bootup phase of NT is resetting or otherwise disabling the keyboard. (In my case, resetting the USB bus, and that disables the BIOS's keyboard-emulation for USB keyboards.) For a laptop though, I have no idea. Is the keyboard "live" during any of the prior prompts during the NT boot process? I'm wondering if perhaps, when prompted to press F6 to load 3rd-party storage drivers, if you hit F5 or F7 (forget which, I think F5 is for the HAL selection, and F7 for ACPI stuff), and select "Standard PC HAL", or perhaps they have one specific for that Toshiba.

Edit: I also wonder if perhaps some sort of power-management timer is kicking in. What happens if you tap the "SHIFT" key repeatedly, like every 30 seconds during the bootup phase? Hopefully that would prevent any sleep modes from kicking in due to in-activity.
